All characters from the anime Vampire Knight. Characters knight vampire. Characters from Night Class

What to do when first love is a strange triangle in which there is a person, a vampire and a person bitten by a vampire. Reminds me of a dinner party. And gradually this dinner turns into a thriller: the girl becomes a vampire, the bitten man turns into a monster, and angry relatives come from the past with strange goals. This is not a Brazilian series, but just an anime “Vampire Knight”, the characters of which will be the topic of this publication.

What is the anime about?

Somewhere on the outskirts of the city is the elite Cross Academy, where all the events of the anime “Vampire Knight” take place. The educational institution is divided into two departments where students study: Day and Night.

No one from the Day Class knows that a whole class of vampires comes to school in the evening. This action must be kept in the strictest confidence, but high school girls cannot resist the sight of handsome men in snow-white uniforms, and they, in turn, do not mind tasting fresh blood. Therefore, in order to avoid casualties, Director Cross appoints Yuki and Zero as Guardians, who are responsible for maintaining order and keeping people away from vampires.

But one day, an unforeseen event occurs within the walls of the school, and those who remained on the side of good can move to the Night Class, under the protection of bloodsuckers. The plot of the anime “Vampire Knight” is really interesting, but special attention should be paid to the main characters of this story. In fact, without them there would be no plot.

Yuki

The anime "Vampire Knight", the characters of which are the purpose of the publication, begins with the fact that a little girl of about 5-6 years old is attacked by a vampire, but she is saved by another vampire and brought to her old acquaintance - Director Cross. So, Yuki becomes the adopted daughter of the school principal. She doesn't remember her childhood. Everything that happened to her before she was five years old is hidden behind a dark screen of uncertainty. Now Yuki Cross is a student of the Day Class and part-time Guardian, guarding the secrets of the educational institution.

The girl has a cheerful and carefree disposition. From the first episodes of the anime, it may seem that she is quite childish, but as the plot develops, she has to quickly grow up. Yuki is afraid of Kaname. Although he saved her 10 years ago, he still remains a vampire. Nevertheless, the girl communicates with him politely and feels a sense of gratitude for the help he provides her. She is also attached to Zero. They are childhood friends, and from the moment the guy showed up at Yuki's house, she wants to support him.

As a Guardian, she carries a weapon with her - the Artemis staff. The girl is sure that Kaname shows her signs of attention, considering her something like a favorite pet animal, because they live in different worlds. But he helps Yuki Cross regain her memories by turning into a vampire. As it turns out later, Yuki also belongs to the Kuran clan. The mother, trying to protect her daughter from Rido, suppressed her vampire essence so that the child could live a normal life.

Zero

Zero Kiryu comes from a line of vampire hunters. Four years ago, his family was attacked by a vampire, his parents died, and the boy was bitten. Now he can turn into a class “E” vampire at any moment (a humanoid monster with an irresistible desire to kill). But until this happens, he performs the duties of a Guardian and studies with Yuki. Because of his past, he hates the vampire race and believes that it is best to exterminate them. To maintain discipline and law and order at school, Zero possesses the “Bloody Rose” - a pistol with deadly bullets for a vampire.

Blood pills are no longer helping him, so Yuki allows him to drink her blood. Zero makes the girl promise that when he loses his mind, she will shoot him with the Bloody Rose. He likes Yuki, and everything would be fine if not for the fatal bite, turning her into a vampire and the desire to take revenge on all the purebred bloodsuckers, to which his girlfriend now belongs.

Kaname

Kaname Kuran is the last of the Kuran line. He instills a sense of fear and respect in the other vampires of the Academy, which forces them to obey unquestioningly. Therefore, he is the headman and commandant of the hostel, this allows him to control the behavior of his brothers. He communicates with his classmates a little distantly, but he shows signs of attention to Yuki, trying in every possible way to protect him. Kaname doesn’t like that the girl communicates with Zero, but saves the second’s life, since he may be useful.

After joining Rido Academy, Kaname finds himself in a real battle with many dilemmas. On the one hand, he cannot kill his uncle and part-time Master, and on the other, he has problems with the Council of Elders. But skillful distribution of responsibilities helped avoid tragedy. While the vampires protected the students from Rido and his team, Kaname managed to get rid of the Council and return to the Academy. Then, together with Yuki, he goes to the family estate.

Characters from Day Class

Actually, the plot of “Vampire Knight” is based on the fates of these three heroes. Characters with a deep and rich past must sooner or later collide so that the events of the past days are connected and resolved at one point.

However, we should not forget about the minor characters who played their role in this story.

  • Sayeri Wakaba. Yuki's best friend, who lives in the same dorm room with her. Unlike her classmates, she has no sympathy for the guys from the Night Class, considering them dangerous. He doesn’t believe in vampires, but calmly accepts the information that Yuki is a real vampire.
  • Kasumi Kageyama. The prefect in the Day Class who has romantic feelings for Luka.

Characters from Night Class

Night Class characters also played an important role in the anime “Vampire Knight”. If we put aside the moments with Rideau's attack and other troubles, then it is likely that Director Cross's dream of friendship between humans and vampires could become a reality.

  • Takuma Ichijo. He always had a friendly attitude towards human beings, but when Rido attacked, he tried to stop Kaname, since his grandfather was the head of the Council of Elders. He holds the position of vice president in the class.
  • Luca Soen. The guys from the Day Class are ready to throw the whole world at her feet, but she is fanatically in love with Kuran and remains with him until the end. She communicates arrogantly with people, she does not like Yuki and Zero.
  • Hanabusa Aido. It is perhaps impossible to notice a “vampire” in this vampire. He enjoys the attention of human girls, sometimes comes up with pranks, for which he gets “on the neck” from Kaname, but remains faithful to him to the end.

  • Akatsuki Kain. Cousin Aido. He pays little attention to what is happening around him, and does not always stop the antics of his relative, for which he receives along with him. Very insightful and not indifferent to Luka.
  • Senri Shiki. The son of Rido Kuran, who, taking advantage of his blood connection, possessed him and attacked the school. While still a student, Shiki worked as a model and was indifferent to everything that was happening.
  • Rima Toya. She is always close to Shiki and constantly worries about him. She also works as a model and is the first to notice that Senri has been possessed by someone else.
  • Seiren. Kaname's bodyguard.

In a world where people will never go, there is still a lot of unknowns. The anime "Vampire Knight" is one of thousands of stories where vampires can show human feelings and fight for their family, home, beliefs and love.

On November 8, 2013, the first extra-afterword was released. By 2016, the continuation of the series, called “Vampire Knight: memories,” officially became known. The first volume combined four previously released extras. The new series is a continuation of the main one.

Plot

The action takes place at Cross Academy, a prestigious private educational institution, in an indefinite period of time (approximately 1990s - 2000s), which can only be approximately determined by samples of weapons and equipment found in the bonus chapters of the manga. There are two departments in this academy - Day and Night. Ordinary people study at Daytime, and Nighttime students are considered the elite. The students of the Day class and their teachers do not know that in reality all the students of the Night class are vampires. The main character, Yuuki Cross, is a student of the academy director. Together with Zero Kiryu - another student of Director Cross and the heir to the vampire hunter clan - they, as Guardians of the Academy, must maintain order in the academy, if possible suppressing all contacts between the Night and Day classes, while maintaining the secret of the vampires.

Introduction

  • Level A - high (purebred) vampires, whose blood has never mixed with human blood. Revered and respected by other vampires.
  • Level B - aristocrats (noble). Vampires whose blood was mixed with human blood, but nevertheless only those who were born a vampire are considered to be them. Almost all the students in the night class are vampires of this category. Aristocrats are significantly inferior in strength to purebloods, but each clan has its own special abilities.
  • Level C - ordinary vampires, the most numerous category. Unlike aristocrats, their blood was much more often mixed with human blood.
  • Level D - vampires who were once human. A small group, since turning a human into a vampire is prohibited (only level A vampires can do this).
  • Level E - lowest level. This group is separated from the others because it consists of vampires who were formerly human but have now lost their minds. It is believed that all turned vampires will eventually fall to this level because they will never be able to live with the instincts of a vampire, but this will not happen if a vampire turned from a human drinks the blood of the vampire who "gave" him new life.

Characters

Day Class

Yuki Cross (Japanese: 黒主優姫 Kurosu Yu:ki) - The adopted daughter of the director of Cross Academy, she is 16 years old. Yuki is a member of the school's disciplinary committee, which provides the school with Guardians. She is cheerful and carefree, and thanks to her job as a Guardian, she is able to handle the most unpredictable situations. Ten years before the events of the series begin, Yuki was attacked by a vampire. Kaname killed him, saved Yuki and brought her to Principal Cross. Yuki did not remember anything about her life before this event and stayed with the director, becoming his adopted daughter. Yuki has a certain fear of Kaname, because he is also a vampire, like the one who attacked her, although she feels a feeling of love for him. At the same time, Yuki shares a strong friendship with Zero. From the very moment he appeared in her life, she wanted to help him and support him. When the vampire in Zero wins, Yuki gives him her blood, hoping to save Zero from madness. Yuki's blood attracts vampires more than anyone else's.
Her weapon of choice was "Artemis", a staff given to her by the headmaster of Cross Academy.
At the beginning of the manga she looks like a rather childish teenager, but as the plot develops she is forced to grow up very quickly. She thinks that Kaname's feelings for her are not too deep.

At some point, she realizes that Kaname is connected with her erased childhood memories, and with the help of Zero, she tries to figure out her past, but Kaname is in no hurry to reveal her cards and sets Yuki a condition: she must accept his feelings, and then he will tell her the truth. Yuki doesn't have time to get used to her new role as a human "pureblood lover" because Rido Kuran infiltrates the Academy, and Kaname is forced to restore her memory by making her a vampire.
When Yuki was five years old, her existence was kept a secret to keep her safe. But the secret came true, and the evil brother of Yuki and Kaname's parents, Rido Kuran, came to take her away. Trying to save Yuki, her father died, and her mother, sacrificing herself, suppressed the vampire nature in Yuki so that she could live as a human girl.
Yuki is having trouble getting used to her new identity and even worse to her new relationship with Zero, which has become hostile. Despite strong mutual feelings, he confronts Kaname several times. She attacks Rido, and Zero, with her help, kills him. After this, Yuki and Zero said goodbye, and Yuki left Cross Academy with Kaname, and they returned to the family estate together.

Zero Kiryu (Japanese: 錐生零 Kiryu Zero) - Yuki's childhood friend, he is also the Guardian of Cross Academy and is on the disciplinary committee. In the manga, he is 17 years old, but stayed for a second year to study in the same class as Yuki. Since childhood, Yuki constantly took care of him, encouraging him and trying to cheer him up. The Zero family, a clan of vampire hunters, was killed by the pureblood vampire Hio Shizuka when he was still a child. From that moment on, Zero hates all vampires and believes that they are all bloodthirsty monsters disguised as humans and must die. Additionally, during an attack on his family, he was bitten by Shizuka, who is a pureblood vampire, and turned, which means sooner or later he will end up as a Category E vampire.
Zero's body does not accept the blood pills that most vampires take to quell their thirst. Yuki's blood helps him stay sane, but there is very little chance that it will save him from falling to level E. Only Shizuka's blood could do this, but she was killed by Kaname during the story of the manga.
Zero is the only person for whom Yuki is ready to confront even Kaname.
Zero's weapon is the Bloody Rose, a pistol given to him by Director Cross. Loaded with special bullets that can mortally wound, but only a vampire. Zero made a promise from Yuki that if he fell to category E, she would personally shoot him with this pistol.
Zero has a twin brother, Ichiru.
After killing Ichiru and defeating Rido, Zero declares his goal to be the complete destruction of all pureblood vampires, and Yuki is first in line.

Sayori (Yori) Wakaba (Japanese: 若葉沙頼 Wakaba Sayori (Yori)) - Yuki's dorm roommate and best friend. She is one of the few girls who is not interested in Night Class. Sayori found them a little scary and preferred to interact with the students from the Day Class. However, she takes the fact that her best friend is a vampire calmly. Because of Yori, Yuki flatly refuses to leave the Academy with Kaname after Rido attacks them. Kaito invites Yori to a ball hosted by the Kuran family and uses her as vampire bait in an attempt to stir up trouble, while Yori herself does it in order to meet Yuki, whom she has not seen for a year. Hanabusa Aido's lover. It was also revealed that she is the daughter of an important official. In the last chapter, Yori (her face is not shown) tells her grandchildren about Yuki and the battle of the pureblood vampires.

Kasumi Kageyama (Japanese: 影山霞 Kageyama Kasumi) - head of the day class. Has dark brown hair and wears glasses. Kasumi is in love with Luka and tries in every possible way to show it to her, but Luka has no interest in him. At the ball, he asked Luka to dance with him, but she rejected his request, saying that she did not want to dance with someone she did not know. During the final battle, he, along with Sayori and Shindou, meet Luka and Kain. After seeing Luka, Kasumi's memory of her is restored, but Luka does not remember him, although she thanks him for his love and memory of her.

Night Class

Kaname Kuran (Japanese: 玖蘭枢 Kuran Kaname) - Yuki's older brother, purebred vampire, founder of the Kuran clan. 21 years old. His parents are Haruka and Juri Kuran. He saved Yuki from a vampire who attacked her when she was five years old. Kaname is the president of the Night Class and the commandant of the Lunar Dormitory, and is feared and respected by the rest of the Night Class students. Plays a leading role, as he is the last of the noble family of purebred Kuran vampires. Loves Yuki. It was because of him that many scions of noble vampire families decided to enter Cross Academy. He is always somewhat cold and distant with his classmates, but is kind and affectionate with Yuki. He cares and protects her in every possible way since he saved her, and this has its own romantic meaning (he always tells Zero that he only allows him to live because he is useful to Yuki).
He is somewhat jealous of Zero, because he knows that he is also partial to Yuki. He knows the pureblood vampire who turned Zero, Shizuka Hio, whom he later kills. However, the blame for this crime fell on Zero's shoulders. Only Hanabusa Aido and Zero know the truth about this incident.
Ultimately, Kaname saves Zero from execution for the murder of Shizuka, thereby going against the wishes of the Council of Elders. He does this because Yuki couldn't bear Zero's death. Moreover, he gives Zero his blood, which will certainly be able to stop his fall to level E, so that Zero will continue to remain a “shield” for Yuki.
After Rido infiltrates the Academy, he is forced to turn Yuki into a vampire, or rather awaken the vampire half in her. Rido is his Master, so he can't kill him. Despite his very tense relationship with Zero, he understands that only he can kill Rido.
Rido's attack puts Kaname at war not only with his uncle and his army, but also with the Council of Elders, and even some of his classmates. At the same time, he is not sure of the feelings of Yuki, who flatly refused to leave the Academy with him, and does not even trust his few allies. And yet, after a sharp confrontation with his sister-lover, which, however, ended in reconciliation, he goes “to do only what he alone can do.” Unable to intervene in the fight with Rido, Kaname sends the Night Class to protect the Day Class, and he single-handedly destroys the entire Council of Elders. Manages to return to the Academy just in the midst of the dramatic confrontation between Zero and Yuki. At the end, he leaves Cross Academy with Yuki and returns to the family estate.

Takuma Ichijo (Japanese: 一条拓麻 Ichijo: Takuma) - Vice President of the Night Class, a vampire aristocrat, almost as strong as Kaname. 18 years. Considers himself Kaname's friend. After the death of his parents, Kaname lived in his house for some time. He seems very kind and, unlike other vampires, he does not have a dark atmosphere surrounding him, so he seems more human. Most of all he likes to read manga. He also knows that Kaname saved Yuki when she was a child. She treats Yuki well, although sometimes she wonders why Kaname is ready to do anything for her. His grandfather is the Head of the Council of Elders, a very old and powerful vampire. He does not want to go over to the side of the Council, but is unable to resist his grandfather. Stands in Kaname's way to prevent him from harming Senri's body, which is possessed by Rido. At the time of Rido's attack on the Academy, it is impossible to say with absolute certainty which side Takuma is on, but his attitude towards people always seemed friendly, and he enjoyed studying at the Academy.
The main weapon is a samurai sword. Subsequently, he decides to go over to Kaname’s side, kills his grandfather, but he himself disappears without a trace. His sword would later be found by Senri and Rima. During his disappearance, he serves Sara Shirabuki. When Rima and Senri offer to go with them, he refuses and admits to Senri that he has a crush on Sara.

Luca Soen (Japanese: 早園瑠佳 So:en Hand) - vampire aristocrat, heiress of the Soen family. 17 years. It is especially popular among Day Class students. She is one of Kaname's most loyal defenders. Loves him to the point of fanaticism. Since vampires believe that if one vampire drinks the blood of another, they will fall in love with each other, Luka often offers his blood to Kaname. But even after this, Kaname remained indifferent to her.
He treats people arrogantly, does not believe in the possibility of peaceful coexistence of races, cannot stand Yuki and Zero, and is the object of special admiration for the head of the Day Class where Yuki studies (and repeatedly rejects him). However, after Rido's attack on the Academy, he tells Kain that he "will protect the girls from the Day Class who admire Kaname so much to the very end" because he "can understand their feelings." Upon learning that Yuki is Kaname's pureblood sister and they share a bond that goes much deeper than childhood friendship and affection, Luka apologizes to him for his feelings, calling himself "a fool who only thinks about her feelings." Kaname says he "believes her."
She also has the magical powers of vampires, in her case it is a death glare.
After Kaname lets them go, he decides to follow him.

Voiced by: Minagawa Junko

Hanabusa "Idol" Aido (Japanese: 藍堂英 Aido: Hanabusa) - vampire aristocrat. Has the ability to control ice. Genius and prodigy. 17 years. Aido appears cheerful and friendly, but can instantly change and become cold and vindictive. The girls from the Day Class gave him the nickname "Aidoru" (similar to the Japanese pronunciation of the English "Idol"). Along with his cousin Akatsuki Kain, he is known as "Kaname-sama's right hand man". He respects and loves Kaname very much. Like Yuki, he decided that he would remain faithful to him, “even if he was betrayed.”
As children, he and Kaname didn’t get along very well, but after meeting at the funeral of Kaname’s parents, Aido decided to become his most loyal protector.
He and Yuki have a rather funny relationship: from small dirty tricks to easy friendship. In general, he seems to be the most socially adapted vampire of all: he enjoys the attention of the Day Class girls, comes up with all sorts of stupid jokes (for which he often receives slaps from Kaname), and sometimes even communicates in a friendly manner with Zero. Becomes one of Yuki's bodyguards.
Rido is the first to attack when he attacks the Academy. Looks after Yuki all year. After killing his father, he becomes colder towards Kaname, but tries to suppress any hatred towards the Kuran family. Helps Yuki restore the Night Class. Witnesses Yuki drinking Zero's blood, but says nothing and instead asks Rima and Senri for help spying around.

Akatsuki Kain (Japanese: 架院暁 Kain Akatsuki) - Aido's cousin, aristocratic vampire. 17 years. Has the ability to control fire. He attaches little importance to anything and does not know how to stop jokes that have gone too far in time, so he and Aido often get into trouble. The Day Class girls gave him the nickname "Wild" (from the English. wild, wild).

He has a habit of blaming others for all his troubles, especially Aido, so as not to be involved in a showdown, but as a result he always receives punishment. He is incredibly perceptive and considerate of the feelings of others, especially Aido and Luka, for whom he harbors very romantic feelings.
Enters battle against Rido's army and the Council to protect the Academy. When Kaname decides to destroy all purebloods, he still remains on his side.

Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe

Senri Shiki (Japanese: 支葵千里 Shiki Senri) - one of the youngest students of the Night Class (16 years old).
She works as a model with Rima Toya. He has very tender feelings for Rima, and after a thousand years he begins to date her. Very attached to Takuma. His father is a pureblood vampire (Rido Kuran), and his maternal uncle is a member of the Council. Rido Kuran possesses him to get into the Academy. Having come to his senses and realizing that he almost killed Rima, he seems ready to tear apart his father and all his henchmen with his bare hands.
Senri's weapon is his blood. Biting the skin of his finger and releasing a little blood, he uses it like a whip. After the destruction of the academy, he goes with Rima in search of Takuma. A year later, they manage to find Takuma, who spent all his time with Sara Shirabuki. He guesses why Takuma hasn’t made himself known all this time.

Voiced by: Soichiro Hoshi

Rima Toya (Japanese: 遠矢莉磨 That: I am Rima) born and raised in a family of aristocratic vampires. Toya was raised without strict restrictions, but with the ideology of superiority over others inherent in aristocrats. As a result, her mind is slightly dusted with florid phrases about vampire pride and honor. He has been friends with Shiki since childhood. Rima Toya is one of the youngest students in the Night Class. He does not interfere in the intrigues of the academy, but sometimes gets involved in other people's affairs to help his loved ones. Works as a model with Shiki. They are always together and when Shiki goes home for the holidays, Rima is very worried about him. She was also one of the first to sense the changes that occurred in him when Rido Kuran possessed him. She fought him, but was too weak to win. She was saved by Takuma. For some time she was one of several "bodyguards" of Yuki Cross/Kuran. Always worried about Senri, afraid that he would get hungry or get burned.

Voiced by: Eri Kitamura

Seiren (Japanese: 星煉 Seiren) - Night Class student, Kaname's unofficial bodyguard. She is the first to block the path of any perceived threat (such as Zero pointing a gun at Kaname when he hugged Yuki). 18 years.

Voiced by: Risa Mizuno

Other characters

Cayenne Cross (Japanese: 黑主灰閻 Kurosu Kaien) - Yuki's adoptive father, rector of Cross Academy. His dream is mutual understanding between vampires and humans. The creation of the Night Class helps make this dream come true.
Sometimes he falls into childhood and is overly expressive, but he is well versed in his craft and knows how to be serious at the right moments. A former vampire hunter who was considered a Legend.

The voice actor in the anime is Hozumi Goda, in the Drama CD is Koyasu Takehiro

Toga Yagari (Japanese: 夜刈十牙 Yagari To:ga) - vampire Hunter. Previously he was the teacher of Zero and Ichiru. Many years ago, he lost an eye while saving Zero. For some time he was a teacher at Cross Academy. Continues to take care of Zero, although he does it in a very peculiar way. When the Council of Elders sentences Zero to death for killing Shizuka, Yagari is the only one to protest. He leaves a pistol for Zero so that he can shoot himself with honor if he runs out of strength to hold on and begins to fall to level E.

Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto

Shizuka Hio (Japanese: 緋桜閑 Hio: Shizuka) - a purebred vampire who bit Zero. The main antagonist of the first season. Even her closest vampires are afraid to be near her. She is also known as the "Mad Blooming Princess", a nickname given to her by those close to her. The vampire she loved (a former human who promised not to fall to Level E) was killed by Kiryu's vampire hunters even though he had not yet fallen to Level E. As revenge, she attacked Kiryu's family, killed his parents, and turned Zero into a vampire. , and his twin brother Ichiru left with her and became her human servant. According to Shizuka, Ichiru is the only one she simply could not turn into a vampire. Her blood could have stopped Zero's fall to Level E, but she was killed by Kaname, who promised her before his death that her death would not be in vain and the one she hated so much, the one who played with the destinies of the purebloods, would be destroyed.

Voiced by in the anime - Fumiko Orikasa, in the Drama CD - Keiko Sonoda

Ichiru Kiryu (Japanese: 錐生壱縷 Kiryu Ichiru) - Zero's twin brother. As children, they were taught by Toga Yagari. Ichiru did not possess the abilities that his brother possessed and, in addition, was in poorer health. Zero and Ichiru were very close in childhood, but after Ichiru realized that he could never compare with his brother, and accidentally heard that his parents preferred to make Zero the heir of the clan rather than him, he hated his brother. When Shizuka attacked their family, he was the only one left untouched. He left with her and became her servant. Shizuka shared blood with him, causing Ichiru’s natural soreness to disappear. He loves Shizuka very much and takes her death hard. Joined Rido after he promised that those responsible for Shizuka's death would die, and reappeared at Cross Academy as a full-time student. Seems hostile towards Yuki, Zero and Kaname, but it turns out that his choice is not so clear-cut. In chapter 40 of the manga, he actually sacrifices himself to give his brother strength.

Voiced by: Mamoru Miyano

Maria Kurenai (Japanese: 紅まり亜 Kurenai Maria) - a very distant relative of Shizuka Hio. She agreed to give Shizuka her body because she promised to make it stronger and more resilient, and Maria was in poor health from birth. She is a very modest and obedient girl, but this is combined with great emotionality. After Shizuka's death, Maria returned to her family, but before that, she asked Yuki to tell Ichiru that she would like to see him again. Has feelings for Zero.

Voiced by: Mai Nakahara

Asato Ichijo (Japanese: 一条麻遠 Ichijo Asato) - (“First Elder”) Takuma’s grandfather and Head of the Vampire Council. Kaname lived with him for some time after the death of his parents. Asato wanted to adopt him, but Kaname refused. Ichijo allowed his grandson to attend the Academy so that he could keep an eye on Kaname. Very cunning and calculating. I would like to see Kurana at the head of the Rido clan, not Kaname.

Voiced by: Koji Ishii

Sarah Shirabuki- purebred vampire, heiress of the Shirabuki clan. I have known Kaname since childhood. He believes that purebloods should stick together and understands perfectly well how difficult it is for Kaname among ordinary vampires and people. Appears only in the manga. After Takuma disappears, he serves her and when Rima and Senri come for him, he wants to stay with Sara. At the ball, which Kaname organizes to introduce Yuki to everyone, he kills his fiancé with the help of a huntress. Her involvement in these events could not even be assumed.

Haruka Kuran- purebred vampire, father of Yuki and Kaname. A pacifist, he did not want to participate in the affairs of the Council of Elders. He guessed about Rido's plans regarding his children, so Yuki's birth was a secret to everyone. For a long time he held back Rido’s mini-army, but in the end he was killed by him.

Jury Kuran- purebred vampire, mother of Yuki and Kaname. She sacrificed her own life to turn Yuki into a human and give her a chance to live a quiet life.

Rideau Kuran- Yuki's uncle, older brother of Haruka and Juri, father of Senri Shiki. The main antagonist of the second season. Very power-hungry and cunning. Has his own mini-army of category D vampires. The master who awakened Kaname from his sleep. Kaname was once severely wounded while trying to attack Yuki (as a result of those events, Yuki’s parents died, and she herself became human). It took a long time to recover, and did not lose the ability to move into someone else’s body. Thus, he inhabited the body of his son, Senri, and went to Cross Academy for Yuki. Ichiru Kiryu joined him after Rido promised that those responsible for Shizuka's death would die. Kaname gave him his blood, after which his body quickly recovered. Launched an attack on the Academy. It is also known that he once loved Juri Kuran.

Ai Kuran- daughter of Yuki Kuran and Kaname Kuran, adopted daughter of Zero Kiriya. He is also the last pureblood of the Kuran family. Ai has typical Kuran features - she has shoulder-length wavy brown hair and red-brown eyes, like her father, Kaname. She was in love with her stepfather, Zero, but buried her feelings for the sake of her mother, together with Luka trying to bring Yuki and Zero together.

She studied at the Night Department of Cross Academy, holding the position of guard there.

Ren Kiryu- child of Yuki Kuran and Zero Kiryu. An aristocratic vampire, as his mother was a pure-blooded vampire and his father was a common C-level vampire. Ren has silver hair, snow-white skin, and lavender eyes, like his father, Zero. He is also very similar to Uncle Ichiru.

The gender of the child is not yet known to readers, because in Japanese speech, he/she speaks about himself/herself in an impersonal manner, and in the advertising teaser for one of the extras, as well as in the description of the characters in the first volume of Vampire Knight: memories, he/she and Ai were united as “daughters”. Fans' opinions were divided.

Excerpt characterizing the Vampire Knight

Suddenly the angry, squirrel-like expression of the princess’s beautiful face was replaced by an attractive and compassion-arousing expression of fear; She glanced from under her beautiful eyes at her husband, and on her face appeared that timid and confessing expression that appears on a dog, quickly but weakly waving its lowered tail.
- Mon Dieu, mon Dieu! [My God, my God!] - said the princess and, picking up the fold of her dress with one hand, she walked up to her husband and kissed him on the forehead.
“Bonsoir, Lise, [Good night, Liza,” said Prince Andrei, getting up and politely, like a stranger, kissing his hand.

The friends were silent. Neither one nor the other began to speak. Pierre glanced at Prince Andrei, Prince Andrei rubbed his forehead with his small hand.
“Let’s go have dinner,” he said with a sigh, getting up and heading to the door.
They entered the elegantly, newly, richly decorated dining room. Everything, from napkins to silver, earthenware and crystal, bore that special imprint of novelty that happens in the household of young spouses. In the middle of dinner, Prince Andrei leaned on his elbow and, like a man who has had something on his heart for a long time and suddenly decides to speak out, with an expression of nervous irritation in which Pierre had never seen his friend before, he began to say:
– Never, never get married, my friend; Here's my advice to you: don't get married until you tell yourself that you did everything you could, and until you stop loving the woman you chose, until you see her clearly; otherwise you will make a cruel and irreparable mistake. Marry an old man, good for nothing... Otherwise, everything that is good and lofty in you will be lost. Everything will be spent on little things. Yes Yes Yes! Don't look at me with such surprise. If you expect something from yourself in the future, then at every step you will feel that everything is over for you, everything is closed except for the living room, where you will stand on the same level as a court lackey and an idiot... So what!...
He waved his hand energetically.
Pierre took off his glasses, causing his face to change, showing even more kindness, and looked at his friend in surprise.
“My wife,” continued Prince Andrei, “is a wonderful woman.” This is one of those rare women with whom you can be at peace with your honor; but, my God, what I wouldn’t give now not to be married! I’m telling you this alone and first, because I love you.
Prince Andrei, saying this, looked even less like than before that Bolkonsky, who was lounging in Anna Pavlovna’s chair and, squinting through his teeth, spoke French phrases. His dry face was still trembling with the nervous animation of every muscle; the eyes, in which the fire of life had previously seemed extinguished, now shone with a radiant, bright shine. It was clear that the more lifeless he seemed in ordinary times, the more energetic he was in these moments of almost painful irritation.
“You don’t understand why I’m saying this,” he continued. – After all, this is a whole life story. You say Bonaparte and his career,” he said, although Pierre did not talk about Bonaparte. – You say Bonaparte; but Bonaparte, when he worked, walked step by step towards his goal, he was free, he had nothing but his goal - and he achieved it. But tie yourself to a woman, and like a shackled convict, you lose all freedom. And everything that you have in you of hope and strength, everything only weighs you down and torments you with remorse. Living rooms, gossip, balls, vanity, insignificance - this is a vicious circle from which I cannot escape. I am now going to war, to the greatest war that has ever happened, but I know nothing and am no good for anything. “Je suis tres aimable et tres caustique, [I am very sweet and very eater,” continued Prince Andrei, “and Anna Pavlovna listens to me.” And this stupid society, without which my wife and these women cannot live... If only you could know what it is toutes les femmes distinguees [all these women of good society] and women in general! My father is right. Selfishness, vanity, stupidity, insignificance in everything - these are women when they show everything as they are. If you look at them in the light, it seems that there is something, but nothing, nothing, nothing! Yes, don’t get married, my soul, don’t get married,” Prince Andrei finished.
“It’s funny to me,” said Pierre, “that you consider yourself incapable, that your life is a spoiled life.” You have everything, everything is ahead. And you…
He didn’t say you, but his tone already showed how highly he valued his friend and how much he expected from him in the future.
“How can he say that!” thought Pierre. Pierre considered Prince Andrei to be a model of all perfections precisely because Prince Andrei united to the highest degree all those qualities that Pierre did not have and which can be most closely expressed by the concept of willpower. Pierre was always amazed at Prince Andrei's ability to calmly deal with all kinds of people, his extraordinary memory, erudition (he read everything, knew everything, had an idea about everything) and most of all his ability to work and study. If Pierre was often struck by Andrei’s lack of ability for dreamy philosophizing (to which Pierre was especially prone), then in this he saw not a disadvantage, but a strength.
In the best, most friendly and simple relationships, flattery or praise is necessary, just as greasing is necessary for the wheels to keep them moving.
“Je suis un homme fini, [I am a finished man,” said Prince Andrei. - What can you say about me? Let’s talk about you,” he said, after a pause and smiling at his comforting thoughts.
This smile was reflected on Pierre’s face at the same instant.
– What can we say about me? - said Pierre, spreading his mouth into a carefree, cheerful smile. -What am I? Je suis un batard [I am an illegitimate son!] - And he suddenly blushed crimson. It was clear that he made a great effort to say this. – Sans nom, sans fortune... [No name, no fortune...] And well, that’s right... - But he didn’t say that’s right. – I’m free for now, and I feel good. I just don’t know what to start. I wanted to seriously consult with you.
Prince Andrei looked at him with kind eyes. But his glance, friendly and affectionate, still expressed the consciousness of his superiority.
– You are dear to me, especially because you are the only living person among our entire world. You feel good. Choose what you want; it does not matter. You will be good everywhere, but one thing: stop going to these Kuragins and leading this life. So it doesn’t suit you: all these carousings, and hussarism, and everything...
“Que voulez vous, mon cher,” said Pierre, shrugging his shoulders, “les femmes, mon cher, les femmes!” [What do you want, my dear, women, my dear, women!]
“I don’t understand,” Andrey answered. – Les femmes comme il faut, [Decent women] is another matter; but les femmes Kuragin, les femmes et le vin, [Kuragin’s women, women and wine,] I don’t understand!
Pierre lived with Prince Vasily Kuragin and took part in the wild life of his son Anatole, the same one who was going to be married to Prince Andrei’s sister for correction.
“You know what,” said Pierre, as if an unexpectedly happy thought had come to him, “seriously, I’ve been thinking about this for a long time.” With this life I can neither decide nor think about anything. My head hurts, I have no money. Today he called me, I won’t go.
- Give me your word of honor that you won’t travel?
- Honestly!

It was already two o'clock in the morning when Pierre left his friend. It was a June night, a St. Petersburg night, a gloomless night. Pierre got into the cab with the intention of going home. But the closer he got, the more he felt it was impossible to fall asleep that night, which seemed more like evening or morning. It was visible in the distance through the empty streets. Dear Pierre remembered that that evening the usual gambling society was supposed to gather at Anatole Kuragin's place, after which there would usually be a drinking party, ending with one of Pierre's favorite amusements.
“It would be nice to go to Kuragin,” he thought.
But he immediately remembered his word of honor given to Prince Andrei not to visit Kuragin. But immediately, as happens with people called spineless, he so passionately wanted to once again experience this dissolute life so familiar to him that he decided to go. And immediately the thought occurred to him that this word meant nothing, because even before Prince Andrei, he also gave Prince Anatoly the word to be with him; Finally, he thought that all these honest words were such conventional things that had no definite meaning, especially if you realized that maybe tomorrow he would either die or something so extraordinary would happen to him that there would no longer be any honest , nor dishonest. This kind of reasoning, destroying all his decisions and assumptions, often came to Pierre. He went to Kuragin.
Having arrived at the porch of a large house near the horse guards barracks in which Anatole lived, he climbed onto the illuminated porch, onto the stairs, and entered the open door. There was no one in the hall; there were empty bottles, raincoats, and galoshes lying around; there was a smell of wine, and distant talking and shouting could be heard.
The game and dinner were already over, but the guests had not yet left. Pierre took off his cloak and entered the first room, where the remains of dinner were standing and one footman, thinking that no one was seeing him, was secretly finishing off unfinished glasses. From the third room you could hear fuss, laughter, screams of familiar voices and the roar of a bear.
About eight young people crowded anxiously around the open window. The three were busy with a young bear, which one was dragging on a chain, frightening the other with it.
- I'll give Stevens a hundred! - one shouted.
- Be careful not to support! - shouted another.
- I am for Dolokhov! - shouted the third. - Take them apart, Kuragin.
- Well, leave Mishka, there’s a bet here.
“One spirit, otherwise it’s lost,” shouted the fourth.
- Yakov, give me a bottle, Yakov! - shouted the owner himself, a tall handsome man standing in the middle of the crowd wearing only a thin shirt open at the middle of his chest. - Stop, gentlemen. Here he is Petrusha, dear friend,” he turned to Pierre.
Another voice of a short man with clear blue eyes, which was especially striking among all these drunken voices with its sober expression, shouted from the window: “Come here - settle the bet!” It was Dolokhov, a Semyonov officer, a famous gambler and brigand who lived with Anatole. Pierre smiled, looking around him cheerfully.
- I don’t understand anything. What's the matter?
- Wait, he's not drunk. Give me the bottle,” said Anatole and, taking a glass from the table, approached Pierre.
- First of all, drink.
Pierre began drinking glass after glass, looking from under his brows at the drunken guests who were again crowded at the window, and listening to their conversation. Anatole poured him wine and told him that Dolokhov was betting with the Englishman Stevens, a sailor who was here, that he, Dolokhov, would drink a bottle of rum while sitting on the third floor window with his legs hanging out.
- Well, drink it all! - said Anatole, handing the last glass to Pierre, - otherwise I won’t let you in!
“No, I don’t want to,” Pierre said, pushing Anatole away and went to the window.
Dolokhov held the Englishman’s hand and clearly, distinctly spelled out the terms of the bet, addressing mainly Anatole and Pierre.
Dolokhov was a man of average height, with curly hair and light blue eyes. He was about twenty-five years old. He did not wear a mustache, like all infantry officers, and his mouth, the most striking feature of his face, was completely visible. The lines of this mouth were remarkably finely curved. In the middle, the upper lip energetically dropped onto the strong lower lip like a sharp wedge, and something like two smiles constantly formed in the corners, one on each side; and all together, and especially in combination with a firm, insolent, intelligent gaze, it created such an impression that it was impossible not to notice this face. Dolokhov was a poor man, without any connections. And despite the fact that Anatole lived in tens of thousands, Dolokhov lived with him and managed to position himself in such a way that Anatole and everyone who knew them respected Dolokhov more than Anatole. Dolokhov played all the games and almost always won. No matter how much he drank, he never lost his clarity of mind. Both Kuragin and Dolokhov at that time were celebrities in the world of rakes and revelers in St. Petersburg.
A bottle of rum was brought; the frame that did not allow anyone to sit on the outer slope of the window was broken out by two footmen, apparently in a hurry and timid from the advice and shouts of the surrounding gentlemen.
Anatole walked up to the window with his victorious look. He wanted to break something. He pushed the lackeys away and pulled the frame, but the frame did not give up. He broke the glass.
“Well, how are you, strong man,” he turned to Pierre.
Pierre took hold of the crossbars, pulled, and with a crash the oak frame turned out.
“Get out, otherwise they’ll think I’m holding on,” said Dolokhov.
“The Englishman is bragging... huh?... good?...” said Anatole.
“Okay,” said Pierre, looking at Dolokhov, who, taking a bottle of rum in his hands, was approaching the window from which the light of the sky and the morning and evening dawns merging on it could be seen.
Dolokhov, with a bottle of rum in his hand, jumped up onto the window. "Listen!"
he shouted, standing on the windowsill and turning into the room. Everyone fell silent.
- I bet (he spoke French so that an Englishman could understand him, and did not speak this language very well). I bet you fifty imperials, would you like a hundred? - he added, turning to the Englishman.
“No, fifty,” said the Englishman.
- Okay, for fifty imperials - that I will drink the entire bottle of rum without taking it from my mouth, I will drink it while sitting outside the window, right here (he bent down and showed the sloping ledge of the wall outside the window) and without holding on to anything... So? ...
“Very good,” said the Englishman.
Anatole turned to the Englishman and, taking him by the button of his tailcoat and looking down at him (the Englishman was short), began repeating to him the terms of the bet in English.
- Wait! - Dolokhov shouted, banging the bottle on the window to attract attention. - Wait, Kuragin; listen. If anyone does the same, then I pay one hundred imperials. Do you understand?
The Englishman nodded his head, not giving any indication as to whether he intended to accept this new bet or not. Anatole did not let go of the Englishman and, despite the fact that he nodded, letting him know that he understood everything, Anatole translated Dolokhov’s words to him in English. A young thin boy, a life hussar, who had lost that evening, climbed onto the window, leaned out and looked down.
“Uh!... uh!... uh!...” he said, looking out the window at the stone sidewalk.
- Attention! - Dolokhov shouted and pulled the officer from the window, who, entangled in his spurs, awkwardly jumped into the room.
Having placed the bottle on the windowsill so that it would be convenient to get it, Dolokhov carefully and quietly climbed out the window. Dropping his legs and leaning both hands on the edges of the window, he measured himself, sat down, lowered his hands, moved to the right, to the left and took out a bottle. Anatole brought two candles and put them on the windowsill, although it was already quite light. Dolokhov's back in a white shirt and his curly head were illuminated from both sides. Everyone crowded around the window. The Englishman stood in front. Pierre smiled and said nothing. One of those present, older than the others, with a frightened and angry face, suddenly moved forward and wanted to grab Dolokhov by the shirt.
- Gentlemen, this is nonsense; he will be killed to death,” said this more prudent man.
Anatole stopped him:
“Don’t touch it, you’ll scare him and he’ll kill himself.” Eh?... What then?... Eh?...
Dolokhov turned around, straightening himself and again spreading his arms.
“If anyone else bothers me,” he said, rarely letting words slip through his clenched and thin lips, “I’ll bring him down here now.” Well!…
Having said “well”!, he turned again, let go of his hands, took the bottle and brought it to his mouth, threw his head back and threw his free hand up for leverage. One of the footmen, who began to pick up the glass, stopped in a bent position, not taking his eyes off the window and Dolokhov’s back. Anatole stood straight, eyes open. The Englishman, his lips thrust forward, looked from the side. The one who stopped him ran to the corner of the room and lay down on the sofa facing the wall. Pierre covered his face, and a weak smile, forgotten, remained on his face, although it now expressed horror and fear. Everyone was silent. Pierre took his hands away from his eyes: Dolokhov was still sitting in the same position, only his head was bent back, so that the curly hair of the back of his head touched the collar of his shirt, and the hand with the bottle rose higher and higher, shuddering and making an effort. The bottle was apparently emptied and at the same time rose, bending its head. “What’s taking so long?” thought Pierre. It seemed to him that more than half an hour had passed. Suddenly Dolokhov made a backward movement with his back, and his hand trembled nervously; this shudder was enough to move the entire body sitting on the sloping slope. He shifted all over, and his hand and head trembled even more, making an effort. One hand rose to grab the window sill, but dropped again. Pierre closed his eyes again and told himself that he would never open them. Suddenly he felt that everything around him was moving. He looked: Dolokhov was standing on the windowsill, his face was pale and cheerful.
- Empty!
He threw the bottle to the Englishman, who deftly caught it. Dolokhov jumped from the window. He smelled strongly of rum.
- Great! Well done! So bet! Damn you completely! - they shouted from different sides.
The Englishman took out his wallet and counted out the money. Dolokhov frowned and was silent. Pierre jumped onto the window.
Gentlemen! Who wants to bet with me? “I’ll do the same,” he suddenly shouted. “And there’s no need for a bet, that’s what.” They told me to give him a bottle. I'll do it... tell me to give it.
- Let it go, let it go! – said Dolokhov, smiling.
- What you? crazy? Who will let you in? “Your head is spinning even on the stairs,” they spoke from different sides.
- I'll drink it, give me a bottle of rum! - Pierre shouted, hitting the table with a decisive and drunken gesture, and climbed out the window.
They grabbed him by the arms; but he was so strong that he pushed the one who approached him far away.
“No, you can’t persuade him like that,” said Anatole, “wait, I’ll deceive him.” Look, I bet you, but tomorrow, and now we're all going to hell.
“We’re going,” Pierre shouted, “we’re going!... And we’re taking Mishka with us...
And he grabbed the bear, and, hugging and lifting it, began to spin around the room with it.

Prince Vasily fulfilled the promise made at the evening at Anna Pavlovna's to Princess Drubetskaya, who asked him about her only son Boris. He was reported to the sovereign, and, unlike others, he was transferred to the Semenovsky Guard Regiment as an ensign. But Boris was never appointed as an adjutant or under Kutuzov, despite all the efforts and machinations of Anna Mikhailovna. Soon after Anna Pavlovna's evening, Anna Mikhailovna returned to Moscow, straight to her rich relatives Rostov, with whom she stayed in Moscow and with whom her beloved Borenka, who had just been promoted to the army and was immediately transferred to guards ensigns, had been raised and lived for years since childhood. The Guard had already left St. Petersburg on August 10, and the son, who remained in Moscow for uniforms, was supposed to catch up with her on the road to Radzivilov.
The Rostovs had a birthday girl, Natalya, a mother and a younger daughter. In the morning, without ceasing, trains drove up and drove off, bringing congratulators to the large, well-known house of Countess Rostova on Povarskaya throughout Moscow. The countess with her beautiful eldest daughter and guests, who never ceased replacing one another, were sitting in the living room.
The Countess was a woman with an oriental type of thin face, about forty-five years old, apparently exhausted by children, of whom she had twelve. The slowness of her movements and speech, resulting from weakness of strength, gave her a significant appearance that inspired respect. Princess Anna Mikhailovna Drubetskaya, like a domestic person, sat right there, helping in the matter of receiving and engaging in conversation with the guests. The youth were in the back rooms, not finding it necessary to participate in receiving visits. The Count met and saw off the guests, inviting everyone to dinner.
“I am very, very grateful to you, ma chere or mon cher [my dear or my dear] (ma chere or mon cher he said to everyone without exception, without the slightest shade, both above and below him) for himself and for the dear birthday girls . Look, come and have lunch. You will offend me, mon cher. I sincerely ask you on behalf of the whole family, ma chere.” He spoke these words with the same expression on his full, cheerful, clean-shaven face and with an equally strong handshake and repeated short bows to everyone, without exception or change. Having seen off one guest, the count returned to whoever was still in the living room; having pulled up his chairs and with the air of a man who loves and knows how to live, with his legs gallantly spread and his hands on his knees, he swayed significantly, offered guesses about the weather, consulted about health, sometimes in Russian, sometimes in very bad but self-confident French, and again with the air of a tired but firm man in the performance of his duties, he went to see him off, straightening the sparse gray hair on his bald head, and again called for dinner. Sometimes, returning from the hallway, he walked through the flower and waiter's room into a large marble hall, where a table for eighty couverts was being set, and, looking at the waiters wearing silver and porcelain, arranging tables and unrolling damask tablecloths, he called to him Dmitry Vasilyevich, a nobleman, who was taking care of all his affairs, and said: “Well, well, Mitenka, make sure everything is fine. “Well, well,” he said, looking around with pleasure at the huge spread-out table. – The main thing is serving. This and that...” And he left, sighing complacently, back into the living room.
- Marya Lvovna Karagina with her daughter! - the huge countess's footman reported in a bass voice as he entered the living room door.
The Countess thought and sniffed from a golden snuffbox with a portrait of her husband.
“These visits tormented me,” she said. - Well, I’ll take her last one. Very prim. “Beg,” she said to the footman in a sad voice, as if she was saying: “Well, finish it off!”
A tall, plump, proudly looking lady with a round-faced, smiling daughter, rustling with their dresses, entered the living room.
“Chere comtesse, il y a si longtemps... elle a ete alitee la pauvre enfant... au bal des Razoumowsky... et la comtesse Apraksine... j"ai ete si heureuse..." [Dear Countess, how long ago... she should have been in bed, poor child... at the Razumovskys' ball... and Countess Apraksina... was so happy...] animated women's voices were heard, interrupting one another and merging with the rustle of dresses and the moving of chairs. That conversation began, which is started just enough so that at the first pause you get up and rustle with dresses , say: "Je suis bien charmee; la sante de maman... et la comtesse Apraksine" [I am in admiration; mother's health... and Countess Apraksina] and, again rustling with dresses, go into the hallway, put on a fur coat or cloak and leave. about the main city news of that time - about the illness of the famous rich and handsome man of Catherine's time, old Count Bezukhy, and about his illegitimate son Pierre, who behaved so indecently at an evening with Anna Pavlovna Scherer.
“I really feel sorry for the poor count,” said the guest, “his health is already bad, and now this grief from his son will kill him!”
- What's happened? - asked the countess, as if not knowing what the guest was talking about, although she had already heard the reason for Count Bezukhy’s grief fifteen times.
- This is the current upbringing! “Even abroad,” said the guest, “this young man was left to his own devices, and now in St. Petersburg, they say, he did such horrors that he was expelled from there with the police.
- Tell! - said the countess.
“He chose his acquaintances poorly,” Princess Anna Mikhailovna intervened. - The son of Prince Vasily, he and Dolokhov alone, they say, God knows what they were doing. And both were hurt. Dolokhov was demoted to the ranks of soldiers, and Bezukhy’s son was exiled to Moscow. Anatoly Kuragin - his father somehow hushed him up. But they did deport me from St. Petersburg.
- What the hell did they do? – asked the Countess.
“These are perfect robbers, especially Dolokhov,” said the guest. - He is the son of Marya Ivanovna Dolokhova, such a respectable lady, so what? You can imagine: the three of them found a bear somewhere, put it in a carriage and took it to the actresses. The police came running to calm them down. They caught the policeman and tied him back to back to the bear and let the bear into the Moika; the bear is swimming, and the policeman is on him.
“The policeman’s figure is good, ma chere,” shouted the count, dying of laughter.
- Oh, what a horror! What's there to laugh about, Count?
But the ladies couldn’t help but laugh themselves.
“They saved this unfortunate man by force,” the guest continued. “And it’s the son of Count Kirill Vladimirovich Bezukhov who is playing so cleverly!” – she added. “They said he was so well-mannered and smart.” This is where all my upbringing abroad has led me. I hope that no one will accept him here, despite his wealth. They wanted to introduce him to me. I resolutely refused: I have daughters.
- Why do you say that this young man is so rich? - asked the countess, bending down from the girls, who immediately pretended not to listen. - After all, he only has illegitimate children. It seems... Pierre is also illegal.
The guest waved her hand.
“He has twenty illegal ones, I think.”
Princess Anna Mikhailovna intervened in the conversation, apparently wanting to show off her connections and her knowledge of all social circumstances.
“That’s the thing,” she said significantly and also in a half-whisper. – The reputation of Count Kirill Vladimirovich is known... He lost count of his children, but this Pierre was beloved.
“How good the old man was,” said the countess, “even last year!” I have never seen a more beautiful man.
“Now he’s changed a lot,” said Anna Mikhailovna. “So I wanted to say,” she continued, “through his wife, Prince Vasily is the direct heir to the entire estate, but his father loved Pierre very much, was involved in his upbringing and wrote to the sovereign... so no one knows if he dies (he is so bad that they are waiting for it) every minute, and Lorrain came from St. Petersburg), who will get this huge fortune, Pierre or Prince Vasily. Forty thousand souls and millions. I know this very well, because Prince Vasily himself told me this. And Kirill Vladimirovich is my second cousin on my mother’s side. “He baptized Borya,” she added, as if not attributing any significance to this circumstance.
– Prince Vasily arrived in Moscow yesterday. He’s going for an inspection, they told me,” the guest said.
“Yes, but, entre nous, [between us],” said the princess, “this is an excuse, he actually came to Count Kirill Vladimirovich, having learned that he was so bad.”
“However, ma chere, this is a nice thing,” said the count and, noticing that the eldest guest was not listening to him, he turned to the young ladies. – The policeman had a good figure, I imagine.
And he, imagining how the policeman waved his arms, laughed again with a sonorous and bassy laugh that shook his entire plump body, as people laugh who have always eaten well and especially drunk. “So, please, come and have dinner with us,” he said.

There was silence. The Countess looked at the guest, smiling pleasantly, however, without hiding the fact that she would not be at all upset now if the guest got up and left. The guest’s daughter was already straightening her dress, looking questioningly at her mother, when suddenly from the next room several men’s and women’s feet were heard running towards the door, the crash of a chair being snagged and knocked over, and a thirteen-year-old girl ran into the room, wrapping her short muslin skirt around something, and stopped in the middle rooms. It was obvious that she accidentally, with an uncalculated run, ran so far. At the same moment a student with a crimson collar, a guards officer, a fifteen-year-old girl and a fat, ruddy boy in a children's jacket appeared at the door.
The count jumped up and, swaying, spread his arms wide around the running girl.
- Oh, here she is! – he shouted laughing. - Birthday girl! Ma chere, birthday girl!
“Ma chere, il y a un temps pour tout, [Darling, there is time for everything,” said the countess, pretending to be stern. “You keep spoiling her, Elie,” she added to her husband.
“Bonjour, ma chere, je vous felicite, [Hello, my dear, I congratulate you,” said the guest. – Quelle delicuse enfant! “What a lovely child!” she added, turning to her mother.

Day Class

Yuki Cross (Japanese 黒主優姫 Kurosu Yuki?) is the adopted daughter of the director of Cross Academy, she is about 16 years old. Yuki is a member of the school's disciplinary committee, which provides the school with Guardians (Prefects). She is cheerful and carefree, and thanks to her work as a Guardian, she is able to hold her own in the most unpredictable situations. Ten years before the start of the series, Yuki was attacked by a vampire. Kaname killed him, saved Yuki and brought her to Principal Cross. Yuki did not remember anything about her life before this event and stayed with the director, becoming his adopted daughter. Yuki has a certain fear of Kaname because he is also a vampire, like the one who attacked her. At the same time, Yuki shares a strong friendship with Zero. From the very moment he appeared in her life, she wanted to help him and support him. When the vampire in Zero wins, Yuki gives him her blood, hoping to save him from madness. Yuki's blood attracts vampires more than anyone else's.
Her choice of weapon fell on "Artemis" (Artemis), a staff that was given to her by the director of Cross Academy.
At the beginning of the manga she looks like a rather childish teenager, but as the plot develops she is forced to grow up very quickly. He thinks that Kaname’s feelings for her are not too deep - “I’m like a favorite puppy or kitten for him”, he is fully aware that “they are from different worlds” and “the gap between them is very deep.”
But the secret came true, and the evil brother of Yuki and Kaname's parents - Rido Kuran - came to take her away. Trying to save Yuki, her father died, and her mother, sacrificing herself, suppressed the vampire nature in Yuki so that she could live like an ordinary girl.
After chapter 38, it becomes known that Kaname is still not Yuki’s brother, but the ancestor of the Kuran clan, awakened by Rido, so Kaname cannot kill him.
Yuki is having trouble getting used to her new identity and even worse to her new relationship with Zero, which has become hostile. Despite strong mutual feelings, he confronts Kaname several times. Attacks Rido and, with Zero's help, kills him. After this, Yuki and Zero said goodbye, and Yuki left Cross Academy with Kaname and they returned to the family estate together.
Anime voice actor: Yui Horie

Zero Kiryu (Japanese 錐生 零 Zero Kiryu:?) - Yuki's childhood friend, he is also the Guardian of Cross Academy and is on the disciplinary committee. In the manga, he is 17 years old, but stayed for a second year to study in the same class as Yuki. Since childhood, Yuki constantly took care of him, encouraging him and trying to cheer him up. The Zero family, a clan of vampire hunters, was killed by the pureblood vampire Hio Shizuka when he was just a child. From that moment on, Zero hates all vampires and believes that they are all bloodthirsty monsters disguised as humans and must die. In addition, during the attack on his family, he was bitten by Shizuka, who is a pureblood vampire, and turned, which means that sooner or later he will end up as a category E vampire.
Zero's body does not accept the blood pills that most vampires take to quell their thirst. Yuki's blood helps him stay sane, but there is very little chance that it will save him from falling to level E. Only Shizuka's blood could do this, but she was killed by Kaname during the story of the manga.
Zero has feelings for Yuki, and he is the only person that Yuki is willing to stand up to even Kaname.
Zero's weapon is "Bloody Rose", a pistol given to him by Principal Cross.
Voice actor in the anime: Mamoru Miyano

Sayori (Yori) Wakaba (Japanese: 若葉沙頼 Wakaba Yori?) - Yuki's dorm roommate and best friend. She is one of the few girls who is not interested in Night Class. She found them a little scary and preferred to interact with the students from the Day Class. However, she takes the fact that her best friend is a vampire calmly.
Because of Yori, Yuki flatly refuses to leave the academy with Kaname after Rido attacks them.
Anime voice actor: Riza Mizuno

Night Class
Kaname Kuran (Japanese: 玖蘭枢 Kuran Kaname?) is a purebred vampire. His parents are Haruka and Juri Kuran. He saved Yuki from a vampire who attacked her when she was five years old. Kaname is the president of the Night Class and the commandant of the Lunar Dormitory, and is feared and respected by the rest of the Night Class students. Plays the role of the “Queen Mother”, it is because of him that many offspring of noble vampire families decided to enroll in the Cross Academy.
Rido is his Master, so he cannot kill him.
Kaname's nobility and good intentions have been greatly questioned in recent chapters. It looks like Shizuka's prediction that there is only darkness ahead is starting to come true. Goes with Yuki to the castle estate where they grew up.
Anime voice actor: Daisuke Kishio

Takuma Ichijou (一条拓麻 Ichijou: Takuma?) is the vice president of the Night Class, a vampire aristocrat, almost as strong as Kaname.
Anime voice actor: Susumu Chiba

Luka Soen (早園瑠佳 Soen Ruka?) is a vampire aristocrat, heiress of the Soen family.
However, after Rido's attack on the Academy, he tells Kain that he "will protect the girls from the Day Class who admire Kaname so much to the very end" because he "can understand their feelings." Having learned that Yuki is Kaname's pureblood sister, and they are connected by bonds much deeper than childhood friendship and affection, Luka apologizes to him for his feelings. Kaname says he "trusts her."
She also has the magical powers of vampires, in her case it is a death glare.
After Kaname lets them go, he decides to follow him.
Voice actor in the anime: Minagawa Junko

Hanabusa "Idol" Aido (Japanese 藍堂英 Aido: Hanabusa?) is a vampire aristocrat. Has the ability to control ice. Genius and prodigy. 17 years. Aido appears cheerful and friendly, but can instantly change and become cold and vindictive. The girls from the Day Class gave him the nickname "Idol" (similar to the Japanese pronunciation of the English "Idol").
He has the ability to control ice.
He and Yuki have a rather funny relationship: from small dirty tricks to easy friendship. In general, he seems to be the most socially adapted vampire of all: he enjoys the attention of the Day Class girls, comes up with all sorts of stupid jokes (for which Kaname often gets beaten), and sometimes even communicates in a friendly manner with Zero. Becomes one of Yuki's bodyguards.
Rido is the first to attack when he attacks the Academy.
Anime voice actor: Jun Fukuyama

Akatsuki Kain (Japanese: 架院暁 Kain Akatsuki?) - Aidou's cousin, a vampire aristocrat. 17 years. Has the ability to control fire. He attaches little importance to anything and does not know how to stop jokes that have gone too far in time, so he and Aido often get into trouble. The girls of the Day Class awarded him a “stupid” nickname - “Wild” (from the English wild), although he is much more phlegmatic than Aido.
Anime voice actor: Junichi Suwabe

Senri Shiki (支葵千里 Shiki Senri?) is one of the youngest students of the Night Class (16 years old).
She works as a model with Rima Toya. He has very tender feelings for Rima. Very attached to Takuma. His father is a pureblood vampire (Rido Kuran) and his mother's uncle is a member of the Council.
Anime voice actor: Soichiro Hoshi

Rima Toya (Japanese: 遠矢莉磨 Toya Rima?) is one of the youngest students of the Night Class. 16 years. Works as a model with Senri Shiki. They are always together and when Senri goes home for the holidays, Rima worries about him very much. She will be one of the first to feel the changes that occur in him when Rido inhabits him. She was not afraid to order the latter to get out and entered into a fight with him, but she turned out to be too weak to win. Saved by Takuma.
Rima is capable of throwing lightning bolts.
Always worried about Senri, afraid that he would get hungry or get burned.
Anime voice actor: Eri Kitamura

Seiren (星煉 Seiren?) is a Night Class student and Kaname's unofficial bodyguard. She is the first to block the path of any perceived threat (such as Zero pointing a gun at Kaname when he hugged Yuki). 18 years.

Sometimes he falls into childhood and is overly expressive, but he is well versed in his craft and knows how to be serious at the right moments.
Voice actor in the anime: Hozumi Goda

Toga Yagari (Japanese 夜刈十牙 Yagari Toga?) is a vampire hunter. Previously he was the teacher of Zero and Ichiru. Many years ago, he lost an eye while saving Zero. For a time he was a Night Class teacher at Cross Academy.
Anime voice actor: Hiroki Yasumoto

Shizuka Hio (Japanese 緋桜閑 Hio: Shizuka?) is a purebred vampire who bit Zero. Even her closest vampires are afraid to be near her. She is also known as the "Mad Blooming Princess", a nickname given to her by those close to her. The vampire she loved (a former human who promised not to fall to Level E) was killed by Kiriya's vampire hunters even though he had not yet fallen to Level E. As revenge, she attacked Kiriya's family, killed his parents, and turned Zero into a vampire. , and his twin brother Ichiru left with her and became her human servant.
Anime voice actor: Fumiko Orikasa

Ichiru Kiryu (Japanese: 錐生壱縷 Kiryu: Ichiru?) - Zero's twin brother. As children, they were taught by Toga Yagari. Ichiru did not possess the abilities that his brother possessed and, in addition, was very sickly.
Voice actor in the anime: Mamoru Miyano

Maria Kurenai (Japanese: 紅まり亜 Kurenai Maria?) is a very distant relative of Shizuka Hio. She agreed to give Shizuka her body because she promised to make it stronger and more resilient, and Maria was naturally in poor health. She is a very modest and obedient girl, but this is combined with great emotionality. After Shizuka's death, Maria returned to her family, but before that, she asked Yuki to tell Ichiru that she would like to see him again.
Voice actor in the anime: Mai Nakahara

Asato Ichijou (Japanese: 一条麻遠 Ichijo Asato?) ("First Elder") - Takuma's grandfather and Head of the Vampire Council. Kaname lived with him for some time after the death of his parents. Asato wanted to adopt him, but Kaname refused. Ichijou allowed his grandson to attend the Academy so that he could keep an eye on Kaname. Very cunning and calculating. I would like to see Rido, and not Kaname, at the head of the Kuran clan.
Voice actor in the anime: Koji Ishii

Sarah Shirabuki is a purebred vampire, heir to the Shirabuki clan. I have known Kaname since childhood. He believes that purebloods should stick together and understands perfectly well how difficult it is for Kaname among ordinary vampires and people.

Haruka Kuran is a pureblood vampire and the father of Yuki and Kaname. A pacifist, he did not want to participate in the affairs of the Council of Elders. He guessed about Rido's plans regarding his children, so Yuki's birth was a secret to everyone. For a long time he held back Rido’s mini-army, but in the end he was killed by him.

Juri Kuran is a pureblood vampire and the mother of Yuki and Kaname. Sacrificed her own life to turn Yuki into a human and give her a chance to live a normal life.

Rido Kuran is Yuki's uncle, Haruka and Juri's older brother, and Senri Shiki's father. Ichiru Kiriya joined him after Rido promised that those responsible for Shizuka's death would die. Kaname gave him his blood, after which his body quickly recovered. Launched an attack on the Academy. It is also known that he once loved Juri Kuran.

"Vampire Knight" is a touching story about the life of vampires in human society. It talks about how such creatures can coexist hand in hand with those who are their potential food. The anime "Vampire Knight" shows us a story about an ordinary girl with her own problems. But the essence of her problems lies in the fact that she is faced with a choice of her life path. Beautiful vampires and a young girl, that's what can really intrigue us! And her choice is this: a mysterious “bad guy” with a complicated and tragic past or a noble, mysterious friend from childhood memories. This choice faces her throughout the entire anime. And both of these guys are in love with her, although each shows it as he sees fit.

The series takes place at Cross Academy, where there are two shifts of education: for a day class and a night class. The day class is filled with ordinary teenagers, and the night class is filled with vampires. And this division by class was created in order to prove and make sure that they can all live together and without any unnecessary problems. The idea of creating such a school belonged to the rector of the academy - the emotional and kind Cross Cayenne. This idea, most likely, was correct and had a positive ending, since after all, vampires were able to resist their animal instincts, suppressing them with a blood substitute - pills. But some of them are still very thirsty for human blood...

Yuki- the main character, the adopted daughter of the director of Cross Academy. She is a cheerful and carefree girl, the head girl. She practically does not remember what happened to her in childhood, as she has lost her memory. All she remembers very well is the winter evening when she was attacked by a bloodthirsty vampire and saved by another - Kaname Kuran, who gave her under the care of Rector Cross. Since then, she gets along with him quite well, considers him her closest person, although she knows that he is the same as the one who attacked her. She is very attached to Kaname, even if he betrays her, she will forgive him and understand everything! But all this was until a mysterious boy, Zero, appeared at the academy. He looked very lonely and tragic. From that moment on, Yuki fell in love with Zero very much, wanted to help and support him in the most difficult moments of his life! This is where the triangle appears: Zero - Yuki - Kaname.

The plot gets very confusing when Yuki finds out that the man with whom she lived for 4 years, helping him and helping him out in everything, turns out to be a vampire. "Zero Vampire!" She found out when he unexpectedly bit her in the evening. Since Zero’s health was very bad (after all, he is not a purebred vampire, but just a victim who was bitten once in childhood), Yuki decided to give him a certain dose of this drug - her blood! She can’t leave him in trouble... But, nevertheless, he is trying to create a cold and impenetrable wall in his relationship with her. But his feelings are obvious!

Vampire Knight also features various battles between vampires, as well as vampires and hunters. The attitude of aristocratic vampires towards ordinary people, as well as against purebloods, is shown, and these relations are very diverse.

I would also like to briefly describe the main characters:

Zero Kiriu- Yuki's childhood friend, he is also the Guardian of Cross Academy and is on the disciplinary committee. His family was killed by the pureblood vampire Shizuka Hio when he was still a child. From that moment on, Zero hates all vampires and believes that they are all bloodthirsty monsters in human form and must die. And besides all this, he was also bitten by Shizuka, and she is a pureblood, which is why he turned into a vampire. Also, his body does not accept any blood substitutes and requires real blood, since he cannot quench his thirst.

Kaname Kuran- purebred vampire. He saved Yuki from a vampire who attacked her when she was six years old. Kaname is the president of the Night Class, he is feared and respected by the rest of the students. He is always cold and distant with his classmates, but is kind and affectionate with Yuki. He cares and protects her as best he can since he saved her. She is a little jealous of Zero, since he drinks Yuki's blood. He doesn’t need anyone but her in this life, and he will do everything to make her happy. Because he truly loves her.

Now I want to talk about music. The musical accompaniment in the anime is very suitable for the main plot. It cannot leave even the most fastidious people about music indifferent. This is a beautiful combination of violin and piano, these are works that bring to the deepest thoughts and make a person shed tears. Not everyone can write such works, only such a wonderful composer as Haketa Takefumi. Many thanks to him for this!
The drawing is wonderful, in moments it resembles a manga, all nature, people, faces are shown very beautifully. All this is at the highest level. The only thing that’s a little annoying is that the animators gave Yuki too big eyes, but in general everything is pretty good! Well done!

Finally, I want to express my deep gratitude to the creators of the anime and especially to Hino Matsuri!

So, the vampire theme stated in the last article will be continued in the current one. Today we will once again look at a manga about the relationship between people and vampires, both in genre and in concept that differs from the previous one. The work “Vampire Knight” is offered to readers.

This is a rather long 19-volume manga compared to Rising from the Ashes, published since 2005 under the authorship of Hino Matsuri. By the time Vampire Knight launched, Hino already had ten years of experience in the comics industry. Her first work was called "When This Dream Ends" and was well received by readers and editors, but the success of the debut was insignificant compared to the story about vampires.

The manga, which became the subject of our humble review, was adapted into an anime that was a success with audiences from all over the world. However, as a supporter of original stories, I won’t even begin to describe how much worse the film adaptation is than the original, but will simply move on to a direct review of the printed version.

Manga plot

The action takes place at the prestigious private Cross Academy around the 90s of the 20th century. This educational institution is noteworthy in that the studies, although they take place according to the standard - in two shifts - still differ from the program of regular schools. Life at the academy is in full swing day and night, since there are two faculties - Day and Night. "Day" students are children from ordinary families, while "night" students are considered the elite and are superior to those living under the sun in all respects.

Due to the rules of the academy, the true meaning of which is kept secret, students from different departments must communicate with each other as little as possible. They are allowed to see each other only occasionally and under the strict control of the disciplinary committee.

The reason why ordinary people should stay away from the dormitory of the privileged class is clear from the very first pages to every reader, but not to most of the minor characters from the first shift. The pale skin, the striking beauty and strength of the night department students, their dislike of sunlight - everything points to an obvious and incredible truth: “A good half of the academy’s students are vampires.”

The main characters introduced to us right away are Yuuki and Zero. They are the prefects of the school, those who are allowed to know what is hidden even from most teachers. They are the ones who monitor compliance with the rules and regulations, trying, if possible, to maintain harmony between “blacks and whites.”

By the way, I describe students with this combination of antonyms not at all because of the hackneyed “people are light, and vampires are children of darkness,” but because of the difference in the colors of the faculties. People wear dark clothes, and vampire aristocrats wear porcelain white. A good design move by the author, slightly contradicting stereotypes.

Manga characters

However, we digress, and it’s time to finally talk about the characters. How, you ask, are people selected for the responsible positions of representatives of the discipline? This time it’s not at all about their transcendental abilities, everything is much simpler and more realistic. Our prefects are the adopted children of the academy director.

Since Vampire Knight is a shoujo manga, the vast majority of events revolve around Yuuki Cross. She is a kind and sweet 16-year-old girl who does not remember anything from her childhood until the moment she came to the director. Once upon a time, Yuuki was attacked by a vampire, and a guy named Kaname, who was a student in the night class at the beginning of the manga, saved her and brought her to her new father. It is not surprising that the heroine has a rather positive attitude towards vampires, helping them whenever possible and showing friendliness.

Despite her apparent carelessness, Yuuki is capable of making serious decisions and holding herself with relative dignity in various life situations. In addition, she can stand up for herself, fighting with the help of a special weapon - the Artemis scythe.

In general, the character is not bad, gradually developing, as a result of which by the end of the story we see a very smart and determined lady. But to say that she did not irritate me along the way of her formation is simply impossible. It is on Yuuki's throwing that most of the plot is built. The girl rushes between two fires for so long, trying to be on good terms with both heroes, she spends so long trying to understand herself that closer to the end it gets boring.

Unlike his half-sister, Zero is much colder and rude. He remembers his past perfectly, which does not add optimism to the character at all. Zero's parents, hereditary vampire hunters, were killed by one of them. In addition, the boy himself was bitten and turned into a bloodsucker, which doomed him to lifelong torment from bloodlust. This is why Zero hates “night” students and dreams of one day destroying them all.His weapon is the "Bloody Rose", a pistol given by the director.

Zero often acts rashly and cruelly, which in his character and behavior reminds him of Sasuke from Naruto. Perhaps it is precisely because of his dramatic past and impeccable appearance that the hero has crowds of female fans, but for me personally, this type of hero is never a favorite.

It would be a crime not to mention the third link in the Vampire Knight love triangle. Here he is, the main reason for all the disagreements between the director's children is Kaname Kuran. This is the same vampire to whom the main character owes her life. Kaname is the most respected student in the entire academy. He is both the night class president and the dormitory commander.

This hero is the complete opposite of the above. Polite and reasonable, and also very kind towards Yuuki. Kaname thinks about his every step. Thus, by the middle of the story we understand that his intentions are not as simple and pure as they might seem at first glance. If it were not for the last third of the story, one could call him a well-developed and thoughtful hero.

Cons of manga

And now, a big traditional fly in the ointment against the plot. From the very beginning it became clear that the result would be the heroine’s choice between her two lovers, and, as for me, the manga could have easily ended by volume 9-10. But, apparently, the mangaka felt that there weren’t enough surprising plot twists so far, which is why she turned the last part of the story into some semblance of Santa Barbara.

Almost with every volume, Kaname’s status in relation to other vampires changes, Zero becomes so confused in himself that he decides to kill everyone, and that’s the end of it, some new characters and relatives are announced and immediately merged. The heroes perform illogical actions just to increase ratings and unnecessary fan service (for example, Kaname, who doesn’t understand why, in one of the scenes paints Yuuki’s toenails).
