Main character, Yuki Cross, student of the director of the Academy. Characters (from left to right): Akatsuki Kain, Zero Kiryu, Senri Shiki, Takuma Ichijo, Kaname Kuran, Yuki Cross, Hanabusa Aido

Rulers

In addition to vampires in Vampire Knight, there are also hunters (Hunter: The Reckoning).

Peculiarities

Vampires in Vampire Knight are divided into categories. They can have intimate connections with each other, as well as with people. It is also known that vampires age, but much more slowly than humans. Vampires are nocturnal creatures, so they do not like daylight, but it does not harm them. They are also not harmed by traditional types of weapons against vampires: crosses, garlic, holy water, etc. Vampires crossed with humans to increase the numbers of their own species. Thus, they created a society in which levels are distributed depending on the purity of the blood:

Level A- purebred. A minority, but its representatives are the strongest vampires. Only the bite of a pureblood can turn a person into a vampire.

Level B- Nobles (or Aristocrats). They have great strength, but are much weaker than purebreds. Almost all of the students in Cross Academy's Night Class are aristocrats.

Level C- ordinary vampires. They are the largest group.

Level D- vampires who were once human. A small group, since conversion is prohibited, and only level A vampires can do it.

Level E- lowest level. This group is separated from the others because it consists of vampires who were formerly human but have now lost their minds. It is believed that all turned vampires will eventually fall to this level because they will never be able to live with the instincts of a vampire.

Vampires who have gone mad and started pointless killings (not only category E) are included in the lists of vampire hunters.

Organization

The organization of vampires is somewhat reminiscent of the Camarilla. There is a High Council, made up of pure-blooded vampires, that governs the entire vampire community. Council decisions are not subject to discussion. In theory.

But there are so few purebreds and they are so strong that each of them forms a group of devoted followers, thereby forming a kind of clan. But the unification occurs for reasons of personal affection for the leader, and not because of blood kinship.

One such clan is headed by a young purebred vampire Kaname Kuran. All his followers are also young and passionately in love (on the verge of yaoi) with their leader.

Disciplines

Noble (often one) and purebred (several) vampires have supernatural abilities (in addition to speed and charm - and all vampires are beautiful). The following disciplines were noticed:

Setting Possibilities

Big ones. For vampires there are ample opportunities for social play on the “brink of a foul” (killing one’s own kind). The game as hunters is a good action game for shooting category E or someone cooler.

So, the vampire theme stated in the last article will be continued in the current one. Today we will once again look at a manga about the relationship between people and vampires, both in genre and in concept that differs from the previous one. The work “Vampire Knight” is offered to readers.

This is a rather long 19-volume manga compared to Rising from the Ashes, published since 2005 under the authorship of Hino Matsuri. By the time Vampire Knight launched, Hino already had ten years of experience in the comics industry. Her first work was called "When This Dream Ends" and was well received by readers and editors, but the success of the debut was insignificant compared to the story about vampires.

The manga, which became the subject of our humble review, was adapted into an anime that was a success with audiences from all over the world. However, as a supporter of original stories, I won’t even begin to describe how much worse the film adaptation is than the original, but will simply move on to a direct review of the printed version.

Manga plot

The action takes place at the prestigious private Cross Academy around the 90s of the 20th century. This educational institution is noteworthy in that the studies, although they take place according to the standard - in two shifts - still differ from the program of regular schools. Life at the academy is in full swing day and night, since there are two faculties - Day and Night. "Day" students are children from ordinary families, while "night" students are considered the elite and are superior to those living under the sun in all respects.

Due to the rules of the academy, the true meaning of which is kept secret, students from different departments must communicate with each other as little as possible. They are allowed to see each other only occasionally and under the strict control of the disciplinary committee.

The reason why ordinary people should stay away from the dormitory of the privileged class is clear from the very first pages to every reader, but not to most of the minor characters from the first shift. The pale skin, the striking beauty and strength of the night department students, their dislike of sunlight - everything points to an obvious and incredible truth: “A good half of the academy’s students are vampires.”

The main characters introduced to us right away are Yuuki and Zero. They are the prefects of the school, those who are allowed to know what is hidden even from most teachers. They are the ones who monitor compliance with the rules and regulations, trying, if possible, to maintain harmony between “blacks and whites.”

By the way, I describe students with this combination of antonyms not at all because of the hackneyed “people are light, and vampires are children of darkness,” but because of the difference in the colors of the faculties. People wear dark clothes, and vampire aristocrats wear porcelain white. A good design move by the author, slightly contradicting stereotypes.

Manga characters

However, we digress, and it’s time to finally talk about the characters. How, you ask, are people selected for the responsible positions of representatives of the discipline? This time it’s not at all about their transcendental abilities, everything is much simpler and more realistic. Our prefects are the adopted children of the academy director.

Since Vampire Knight is a shoujo manga, the vast majority of events revolve around Yuuki Cross. She is a kind and sweet 16-year-old girl who does not remember anything from her childhood until the moment she came to the director. Once upon a time, Yuuki was attacked by a vampire, and a guy named Kaname, who was a student in the night class at the beginning of the manga, saved her and brought her to her new father. It is not surprising that the heroine has a rather positive attitude towards vampires, helping them whenever possible and showing friendliness.

Despite her apparent carelessness, Yuuki is capable of making serious decisions and holding herself with relative dignity in various life situations. In addition, she can stand up for herself, fighting with the help of a special weapon - the Artemis scythe.

In general, the character is not bad, gradually developing, as a result of which by the end of the story we see a very smart and determined lady. But to say that she did not irritate me along the way of her formation is simply impossible. It is on Yuuki's throwing that most of the plot is built. The girl rushes between two fires for so long, trying to be on good terms with both heroes, she spends so long trying to understand herself that closer to the end it gets boring.

Unlike his half-sister, Zero is much colder and rude. He remembers his past perfectly, which does not add optimism to the character at all. Zero's parents, hereditary vampire hunters, were killed by one of them. In addition, the boy himself was bitten and turned into a bloodsucker, which doomed him to lifelong torment from bloodlust. This is why Zero hates “night” students and dreams of one day destroying them all.His weapon is the "Bloody Rose", a pistol given by the director.

Zero often acts rashly and cruelly, which in his character and behavior reminds him of Sasuke from Naruto. Perhaps it is precisely because of his dramatic past and impeccable appearance that the hero has crowds of female fans, but for me personally, this type of hero is never a favorite.

It would be a crime not to mention the third link in the Vampire Knight love triangle. Here he is, the main reason for all the disagreements between the director's children is Kaname Kuran. This is the same vampire to whom the main character owes her life. Kaname is the most respected student in the entire academy. He is both the night class president and the dormitory commander.

This hero is the complete opposite of the above. Polite and reasonable, and also very kind towards Yuuki. Kaname thinks about his every step. Thus, by the middle of the story we understand that his intentions are not as simple and pure as they might seem at first glance. If it were not for the last third of the story, one could call him a well-developed and thoughtful hero.

Cons of manga

And now, a big traditional fly in the ointment against the plot. From the very beginning it became clear that the result would be the heroine’s choice between her two lovers, and, as for me, the manga could have easily ended by volume 9-10. But, apparently, the mangaka felt that there weren’t enough surprising plot twists so far, which is why she turned the last part of the story into some semblance of Santa Barbara.

Almost with every volume, Kaname’s status in relation to other vampires changes, Zero becomes so confused in himself that he decides to kill everyone, and that’s the end of it, some new characters and relatives are announced and immediately merged. The heroes perform illogical actions just to increase ratings and unnecessary fan service (for example, Kaname, who doesn’t understand why, in one of the scenes paints Yuuki’s toenails).

What to do when first love is a strange triangle in which there is a person, a vampire and a person bitten by a vampire. Reminds me of a dinner party. And gradually this dinner turns into a thriller: the girl becomes a vampire, the bitten man turns into a monster, and angry relatives come from the past with strange goals. This is not a Brazilian series, but just an anime “Vampire Knight”, the characters of which will be the topic of this publication.

What is the anime about?

Somewhere on the outskirts of the city is the elite Cross Academy, where all the events of the anime “Vampire Knight” take place. The educational institution is divided into two departments where students study: Day and Night.

No one from the Day Class knows that a whole class of vampires comes to school in the evening. This action must be kept in the strictest confidence, but high school girls cannot resist the sight of handsome men in snow-white uniforms, and they, in turn, do not mind tasting fresh blood. Therefore, in order to avoid casualties, Director Cross appoints Yuki and Zero as Guardians, who are responsible for maintaining order and keeping people away from vampires.

But one day, an unforeseen event occurs within the walls of the school, and those who remained on the side of good can move to the Night Class, under the protection of bloodsuckers. The plot of the anime “Vampire Knight” is really interesting, but special attention should be paid to the main characters of this story. In fact, without them there would be no plot.

Yuki

The anime "Vampire Knight", the characters of which are the purpose of the publication, begins with the fact that a little girl of about 5-6 years old is attacked by a vampire, but she is saved by another vampire and brought to her old acquaintance - Director Cross. So, Yuki becomes the adopted daughter of the school principal. She doesn't remember her childhood. Everything that happened to her before she was five years old is hidden behind a dark screen of uncertainty. Now Yuki Cross is a student of the Day Class and part-time Guardian, guarding the secrets of the educational institution.

The girl has a cheerful and carefree disposition. From the first episodes of the anime, it may seem that she is quite childish, but as the plot develops, she has to quickly grow up. Yuki is afraid of Kaname. Although he saved her 10 years ago, he still remains a vampire. Nevertheless, the girl communicates with him politely and feels a sense of gratitude for the help he provides her. She is also attached to Zero. They are childhood friends, and from the moment the guy showed up at Yuki's house, she wants to support him.

As a Guardian, she carries a weapon with her - the Artemis staff. The girl is sure that Kaname shows her signs of attention, considering her something like a favorite pet animal, because they live in different worlds. But he helps Yuki Cross regain her memories by turning into a vampire. As it turns out later, Yuki also belongs to the Kuran clan. The mother, trying to protect her daughter from Rido, suppressed her vampire essence so that the child could live a normal life.

Zero

Zero Kiryu comes from a line of vampire hunters. Four years ago, his family was attacked by a vampire, his parents died, and the boy was bitten. Now he can turn into a class “E” vampire at any moment (a humanoid monster with an irresistible desire to kill). But until this happens, he performs the duties of a Guardian and studies with Yuki. Because of his past, he hates the vampire race and believes that it is best to exterminate them. To maintain discipline and law and order at school, Zero possesses the “Bloody Rose” - a pistol with deadly bullets for a vampire.

Blood pills are no longer helping him, so Yuki allows him to drink her blood. Zero makes the girl promise that when he loses his mind, she will shoot him with the Bloody Rose. He likes Yuki, and everything would be fine if not for the fatal bite, turning her into a vampire and the desire to take revenge on all the purebred bloodsuckers, to which his girlfriend now belongs.

Kaname

Kaname Kuran is the last of the Kuran line. He instills a sense of fear and respect in the other vampires of the Academy, which forces them to obey unquestioningly. Therefore, he is the headman and commandant of the hostel, this allows him to control the behavior of his brothers. He communicates with his classmates a little distantly, but he shows signs of attention to Yuki, trying in every possible way to protect him. Kaname doesn’t like that the girl communicates with Zero, but saves the second’s life, since he may be useful.

After joining Rido Academy, Kaname finds himself in a real battle with many dilemmas. On the one hand, he cannot kill his uncle and part-time Master, and on the other, he has problems with the Council of Elders. But skillful distribution of responsibilities helped avoid tragedy. While the vampires protected the students from Rido and his team, Kaname managed to get rid of the Council and return to the Academy. Then, together with Yuki, he goes to the family estate.

Characters from Day Class

Actually, the plot of “Vampire Knight” is based on the fates of these three heroes. Characters with a deep and rich past must sooner or later collide so that the events of the past days are connected and resolved at one point.

However, we should not forget about the minor characters who played their role in this story.

  • Sayeri Wakaba. Yuki's best friend, who lives in the same dorm room with her. Unlike her classmates, she has no sympathy for the guys from the Night Class, considering them dangerous. He doesn’t believe in vampires, but calmly accepts the information that Yuki is a real vampire.
  • Kasumi Kageyama. The prefect in the Day Class who has romantic feelings for Luka.

Characters from Night Class

Night Class characters also played an important role in the anime “Vampire Knight”. If we put aside the moments with Rideau's attack and other troubles, then it is likely that Director Cross's dream of friendship between humans and vampires could become a reality.

  • Takuma Ichijo. He always had a friendly attitude towards human beings, but when Rido attacked, he tried to stop Kaname, since his grandfather was the head of the Council of Elders. He holds the position of vice president in the class.
  • Luca Soen. The guys from the Day Class are ready to throw the whole world at her feet, but she is fanatically in love with Kuran and remains with him until the end. She communicates arrogantly with people, she does not like Yuki and Zero.
  • Hanabusa Aido. It is perhaps impossible to notice a “vampire” in this vampire. He enjoys the attention of human girls, sometimes comes up with pranks, for which he gets “on the neck” from Kaname, but remains faithful to him to the end.

  • Akatsuki Kain. Cousin Aido. He pays little attention to what is happening around him, and does not always stop the antics of his relative, for which he receives along with him. Very insightful and not indifferent to Luka.
  • Senri Shiki. The son of Rido Kuran, who, taking advantage of his blood connection, possessed him and attacked the school. While still a student, Shiki worked as a model and was indifferent to everything that was happening.
  • Rima Toya. She is always close to Shiki and constantly worries about him. She also works as a model and is the first to notice that Senri has been possessed by someone else.
  • Seiren. Kaname's bodyguard.

In a world where people will never go, there is still a lot of unknowns. The anime "Vampire Knight" is one of thousands of stories where vampires can show human feelings and fight for their family, home, beliefs and love.

Animalism
Power over the shadow
Domination
Power
Presence
Durability
Swiftness
Thaumaturgy (Movement of the Mind, Path of Blood, Attraction of Fires, Path of Elemental Control, Control of the Mortal Shell)

Yuki Cross

Yuki Cross– 16-year-old Day Class student at Cross Academy. Yuki Prefect, or otherwise Guardian, which means an elite position in the school. Prefects are protectors of the secrets of the Night Class, protect vampires from excessive intrusiveness of human students, and try to exclude any interaction between students of different races.

Yuki is an orphan. The girl does not remember her childhood. The first memory dates back to her 5th year of life: Yuki is attacked by a monster, from which she is saved by Kaname Kuran, a purebred vampire. Kaname takes the frightened girl to Rector Cross, and the Rector takes the baby into his care. Yuki has a half-brother, Zero Kiriya, who is also an orphan and was raised by Cross.

At first glance, Yuki is a rather ordinary girl. Exemplary student, executive Prefect. However, the fear of vampires, rooted in the moment of attack on her in childhood, fights inside her. The girl is forced to overcome this fear every time she communicates with Zero and Kaname. After all, the first of them is her brother, best friend, loved one, turned into a vampire by a bitter incident, and the second is a purebred vampire, for whom Yuki feels a secret love. The girl is strong in spirit and full of the most humane qualities. She is immediately ready to sacrifice herself for the sake of the creatures dear to her, unable to put up with the opinion of the majority that vampires are just animals.

Zero Kiriya

Zero Kiriya

Zero Kiriya- A Day Class student at Cross Academy, a student of Rector Cross and Yuki's half-brother. Zero is the son of vampire hunters and also has a twin brother, Ichiru. The boys dreamed of becoming vampire hunters and from infancy were trained by Toga Yagari, a famous exterminator of evil spirits. The Kiriya family was exterminated by a purebred vampire. He killed the twins' parents, took Ichiru, and bit Zero himself, turning him into a low-class vampire. Rector Cross took the boy into his upbringing and assigned him to the Day Class, while Zero's true essence did not manifest itself very clearly in him.

Zero is one of the Prefects, or Guardians of the Academy, who keeps order between human students and vampires. This is a silent, always gloomy young man, as if shrouded in some kind of secret. Zero has feelings for Yuki, but due to his vampire nature, he cannot allow himself to get close to her. The guy thinks vampires are animals that can't control their hunger. When Zero's own thirst gets out of his control, he withdraws into himself even more. At the most critical moments, he asks Yuki to kill him. The girl is jealous of Kaname, the jealousy is aggravated by the guy’s hatred of vampires.

Sayori Wakaba (Yori)

Sayori Wakaba (Yori)

Sayori Wakaba (Yori)- A student in the Cross Academy Day Class and Yuki's best friend at school. Sweet, friendly red-haired girl. During class, Yori always sits down with Yuki and discusses school incidents with her. Yori is a balanced, confident girl. She is perhaps the only one of the female half of the Day class who does not go crazy when guys from the Night department appear and is indifferent to the charm of vampires.

Kasumi Kageyama

Kasumi Kageyama

Kasumi Kageyama– student of the Cross Academy Day Class. The head of the class in which Yuki and Zero study. A typical exemplary student: tousled hair, rumpled appearance, glasses. Kasumi always strives to curry favor with the rector and sticks her nose in everywhere, meticulously getting students to fulfill their school duties. The headman is in love with Luka from the Night class and does not hide it, secretly hoping that the vampire girl will notice him and reciprocate his feelings.

Night class

Kaname Kuran

Kaname Kuran

Kaname Kuran is a pureblood vampire, which means Kaname is the highest ranking vampire. President of the Night Class and head of the Lunar Dormitory, where vampires live. Kaname is respected by other Night Class students for his leadership abilities, ability to find the best way out of conflict situations, and also for his origins. All Academy vampires jealously protect their leader from any form of disrespect.

When Yuki was 5 years old, Kaname saved her from a Class E vampire and gave her to Rector Cross to raise. From that moment on, the young vampire feels affection for the girl and responsibility for her. Understanding the different worlds they come from, Kaname nevertheless sincerely loves Yuki and secretly protects her. Kuran is strict with others, but fair. Not every vampire will undertake to challenge the President's decision. And only with Yuki is Kaname absolutely defenseless and open. For the safety of his beloved, Kaname returns Zero to human life, allowing him to drink his blood.

Takuma Ichijo

Takuma Ichijo

Takuma Ichijo- Vice President of the Night Class. A vampire belonging to the second level in the hierarchy is an aristocratic vampire. Cross was sent to the Academy at the request of his family, in particular his grandfather, who heads the Vampire Council. According to Ichijo's assignment, he was supposed to monitor a purebred vampire from the Kuran family, but Takuma became attached to the students and did not want to spy on his friend Kaname.

Of all the Night Class students, Ichijou seems to be the most friendly and open. He saves Yuki from a low class vampire and also invites the Day Class Prefects to celebrate his birthday with the vampires.

Hanabusa Aido

Hanabusa Aido

Hanabusa Aido- student of the Night class of Cross Academy, vampire aristocrat. The most cocky of the vampire students. In front of people he behaves arrogantly, impudently, and sometimes even aggressively. He believes that a person has no right to come to vampires unless he wants to become dinner for them. Aido is particularly captivated by Yuki's blood. He is able to smell the blood of a girl from a distance, and when meeting her he can hardly restrain himself from biting her neck. Most often appears in the company of his senior comrade Cain.

Akatsuki Kain

Akatsuki Kain

Akatsuki Kain- student of the Night class of Cross Academy, vampire aristocrat. Aido's close comrade, they most often appear together. Compared to his emotional and hot-tempered friend, Cain looks more balanced and mature. Has feelings for Luka.

Luca Soen

Luca Soen

Luca Soen– student of the Night class of Cross Academy, vampire aristocrat. Once in the past, Kaname drank her blood, and since then Luka has lived with the memories of this. When the head of Kuran seems broken, she invites him to repeat the past experience. Luka has feelings for Kaname, but does not impose his sympathies, submissively and quietly awaiting attention from the head. With human students, the girl behaves defiantly, without hiding her contempt. The head of the Day Class, Kasumi, is unrequitedly in love with Luka.

Rima Toya

Rima Toya– student of the Night class of Cross Academy, vampire aristocrat. Rima looks like a very young girl, an impression contributed to by her penchant for braiding her hair in two ponytails and wearing teenage clothes. Of the Night Class students, Rome is the most zealous of his aristocratic origins. All her comments about people are full of disgust. Rima is on friendly terms with Shiki, with whom they work as fashion models.

Senri Shiki

Senri Shiki

Senri Shiki- student of the Night class of Cross Academy, vampire aristocrat. An eternally gloomy, eternally bored student. Shiki is full of idle melancholy, he refuses to participate in any entertainment, trying to get away from the crowd as quickly as possible. He doesn't care about the likes of the girls from the Day Class. Shiki's closest relationship is with Rima. Together they work as fashion models. Only next to this girl is the vampire able to show at least some emotions. Shiki is just as bored in battle as in everyday life. He uses his own blood as a weapon, which he controls like a whip.

Seiren

Seiren– student of the Night class of Cross Academy. Seiren doesn't look much like a student. She doesn't go with other vampires. The girl silently appears only when the head of Kuran is in danger. Seiren is the first to rush to his defense. She also carries out Kaname's orders - always unquestioningly and always unnoticed.

Others

Cayenne Cross

Cayenne Cross

Cayenne Cross- Rector of Cross Academy. In his specialized school, Cross maintains 2 departments - the Day Class, where ordinary people study, and the Night Class - a department for vampires. Sometimes the rector behaves strangely: he makes indecent jokes, evades responsibility, and acts like a child. But as the head of the Academy, he is fair and always attentive.

Cross is the adoptive father to Yuki and Zero. He dotes on his children, especially his daughter. The best reward for the rector is to hear how children love and respect him. Despite his outward carelessness and irresponsibility, Cross stoically kept Zero's secret and protected his students from the blows of fate.

Toga Yagari

Toga Yagari

Toga Yagari- famous vampire hunter. He once trained the Kiriya brothers, preparing them to work as undead fighters. At Cross's request, he becomes a teacher in the Daytime class, and also teaches an ethics course in the Night Department. Toga is merciless to vampires who cannot control their hunger. He will not hesitate to shoot point-blank at a vampire, even if he is his student or relative. Believes that vampires who have lost control of their bloodlust can only be enemies. During Zero's training, Yagari injured his eye. The boy tried to protect the Class E vampire, and he took advantage of Yagari's delay, injuring the hunter.
