Separate meals. Basic principles of separate nutrition that you need to know What does separate nutrition mean read

Many people have heard about the idea of product compatibility, but few have put it into practice. It seems difficult, requiring willpower, which is sorely lacking. In fact, such a system does not require large moral costs, because it does not involve a hunger strike or any restrictions, but compliance with certain rules. The theory of separate nutrition for the purpose of losing weight, popular at the beginning of the 20th century, still finds its supporters. There are also many opponents who expose the idea itself and its founder.

Separate nutrition is based on the idea of food compatibility, the same for all people. Shelton believed that the enzymes produced by the stomach to digest different types of food differ. Thus, the enzymes needed to break down carbohydrates will not be able to process proteins and vice versa. If you eat one type of food at one time, this will greatly facilitate the process of digestion and assimilation.

If preference is given to traditional food, in which different ingredients are mixed, then the stomach begins to secrete several enzymes at once. As a result, some foods are broken down faster, others slower, which leads to their long stay in the stomach. This, in turn, entails processes of fermentation, rotting, causes intoxication of the body, and metabolic processes are disrupted. The result is excess weight, sludge, and poor health.

According to Shelton and his followers, individual food groups should not be combined with each other; they should be consumed only after the previous food has been digested and absorbed. Following the separate nutrition system, it is necessary to give up tea and coffee, store-bought juices, and products containing preservatives, since the ingredients have already been mixed here.

Groups of foods that require the production of different enzymes

Separate meals for weight loss have the main rule: never consume proteins and carbohydrates at the same time. In order for proteins to be absorbed, an acidic environment is required; to break down carbohydrates, an alkaline environment is required. If you eat proteins together with carbohydrates, alkaline and acidic enzymes will be simultaneously released for absorption, neutralizing each other. As a result, the digestion process will be noticeably slowed down; not all food will be processed in the stomach.

Products requiring an acidic environment (protein foods):

  • all types of meat;
  • eggs of any bird;
  • Fish and seafood;
  • milk and products made from it (including cheeses);
  • mushrooms and nuts.

Starch is considered one of the most common carbohydrates. Starchy vegetables include potatoes, green peas, pumpkin, zucchini, cabbage, carrots, and beets. Little starch is found in green vegetables: cucumbers, celery and others. Carbohydrates in the form of sugar are found in honey, sweet fruits and dried fruits. This group of products will require an alkaline environment. In addition, it is necessary for processing cereals and flour products, bananas, chocolate and candies, and other sweets. Beer is also a carbohydrate, so combining it with fish and meat is unacceptable.

Fats are vegetable oils, fatty meats and fish, nuts and seeds. Semi-acidic fruits - sweet apples, pears, apricots and peaches, plums, many berries.

Unacceptable combinations for separate meals

Based on data on the composition of foods that require different enzymes to digest, Shelton came up with combinations that should not be used together:

  1. Protein + protein (especially saturated protein). You cannot combine, for example, meat and fish, or add eggs or nuts to them. All of these contain proteins that are qualitatively different from each other. To digest such dishes, a considerable amount of gastric juice is needed; they will be processed and pass through the digestive tract for a very long time. This causes discomfort: gas formation, bloating, intestinal disturbances.
  2. Proteins + fats (including vegetable ones). Fat coats the stomach, preventing sufficient gastric juice from being produced to process and digest protein. As a result, food takes longer to digest, and some of it remains unprocessed.
  3. Proteins + acids. Sour fruits should not be eaten with protein foods: meat, eggs, cottage cheese. The acid released by the stomach is enough to break them down. Fruits only slow down the process, causing increased acidity and heartburn. You cannot eat sour fruits immediately after protein: protein is digested mainly in the stomach, so it stays there for 4-6 hours, while the absorption of fruits and berries occurs in the intestines, they are in the stomach for only half an hour. Staying here longer, they begin to ferment, all beneficial properties disintegrate.
  4. Carbohydrates + acids. Digestion of carbohydrates requires an alkaline environment, while excess acidity destroys the enzyme ptyalin, which is necessary for the breakdown of carbohydrates.
  5. Carbohydrates + carbohydrates. Foods rich in carbohydrates inhibit the digestion process and slow down metabolism. Excess carbohydrates accumulate in the body as fat. This is why you should not eat mashed potatoes with bread.
  6. Carbohydrates + sugar. Sweet foods don't go well with anything at all. If you really want to treat yourself to a piece of cake or your favorite candy, it’s better to do it separately from the rest, as an independent meal, and not as an addition to it in the form of dessert. It’s better to eat sweets before lunch so that it doesn’t affect your weight loss.
  7. Milk should not be consumed with anything, only as a stand-alone drink that replaces meals. In general, Sheldon believed that a person could live without milk. This is a baby product. Each animal has a special composition of milk (cow, goat, and human breast milk are completely different in properties). It is practically not processed by the body, so there is little benefit from it.
  8. Melon is very healthy, contains many vitamins and minerals, and cleanses the body. But you need to eat it strictly separately. If you eat it with any other food, it will not be beneficial.

Product compatibility table for separate meals

How to use the table

The table below the numbers shows the main product groups (vertically and horizontally). To understand whether it is possible to combine certain ingredients when cooking, just find them, find out the numbers and look at the color that appears when they intersect. For example, fish and meat (1) go well with non-starchy vegetables (11); their combination with starchy vegetables (12) is acceptable. But the remaining cells are colored red - these are those products that cannot be consumed together with meat.

Sample menu for 1 day (taking into account the table data)

Guided by the principles of combination, it is not difficult to create a menu for separate meals.

Breakfast
Scrambled eggs with herbs (white version)
Porridge cooked in water (carbohydrate version)

Dinner
Boiled chicken breast or steamed fish (protein option)
Baked (boiled) potatoes or pasta (carbohydrate option)

Dinner
Cottage cheese or kefir (yogurt without additives)
Fresh vegetable or fruit salad (carbohydrate option)

It is important to know: Carbohydrate foods should alternate with protein foods containing fats or acidic foods. So, if you ate protein food for breakfast, then carbohydrate food for lunch, and dinner should consist of fruits.

Advantages of separate power supply

Many diets are based on the refusal of certain foods and restrictions, which often causes disruptions in the functioning of the body, which does not receive the necessary substances in full. For the same reason, it is difficult for dieters to cope with excess weight, since after stress the body stores substances for future use in case of another shortage. Separate consumption is not a diet in the generally accepted sense, it is rather a system of proper nutrition that can be followed all the time. In addition to losing weight, adherents of the system consider the following advantages of separate nutrition:

  1. Normalization of metabolism. Improper functioning of the digestive organs often causes excess body weight. The establishment of metabolic processes leads to the fact that food does not stay in the body longer than usual, all unnecessary substances leave it in a timely manner, without being deposited as fat.
  2. Improving the functioning of the cardiovascular system. Since, with separate nutrition, the processes of putrefaction and fermentation in the body completely stop, the decay products, the main cause of atherosclerotic vascular lesions, do not enter the blood. With this approach, almost all cholesterol is removed, and new cholesterol no longer accumulates.
  3. Varied menu. Almost everything can be used. The main thing is to stick to compatibility. When following the principles of separate nutrition, there is no feeling of hunger, since the goal is not to limit, but to improve digestion and absorption of food. It is noted, however, that the portion should not exceed 300-400 g at a time.

Separate nutrition does not involve eating food at regular intervals. It is important to wait until you feel a slight feeling of hunger, then start eating. For some people, twice is enough. If the next day you want to eat three times, you don’t need to suppress your hunger. Sooner or later, the body will choose its own regime.

Arguments of supporters and opponents of separate nutrition

Proponents of separate nutrition base their assumptions not on any research, but on the belief that initially humans, like other mammals, consumed foods unchanged (that is, only meat or only vegetables). Over time, people learned to mix different ingredients to improve the taste.

Opponents argue that a separate nutrition system is impossible in principle, because there are practically no products containing only protein or only carbohydrates (except perhaps sugar and egg whites). They also debunk the basic idea of “food rotting in the stomach,” which, according to Shelton, causes health problems and excess weight.

Doctors (S. Baxter, E. Chedia, L. Vasilevskaya and others) proved that, in addition to gastric enzymes, pancreatic enzymes are involved in processing. In addition, R. Minvaleev, a physiologist and candidate of biological sciences, notes that only preliminary processing of food occurs in the stomach; it is completely broken down and absorbed in the duodenum. All possible enzymes are produced here, regardless of what type follows the digestive tract (only protein, only carbohydrate, acidic or mixed).

Much that a person consumes together actually requires the production of various enzymes, but they do not interfere with each other, but complement and help break down indigestible substances. This leads to the fact that food is quickly processed, and its remains leave the body without causing harm to it. Opponents of the separate power supply system give the following arguments:

  1. Meat protein will be absorbed worse if it is not consumed together with carbohydrates (bread or vegetables), which activate the production of pancreatic enzymes necessary for processing protein in the intestines.
  2. Acidic fruits help absorb iron, which is why they are often eaten with grains.
  3. Fiber, which is sufficient in any vegetables, is important for proper functioning and timely cleansing of the intestines. Vegetables have always been considered an excellent complement to meat, because the fiber they contain is necessary for proper functioning and cleansing of the intestines.

However, separate meals for weight loss are suitable by reducing the calorie content of food and streamlining its intake. Much of what Shelton suggested forms the basis of a healthy diet. For example, everyone knows that it is better not to fry meat (proteins + fats), but to boil, stew or steam it. But it’s really better to eat fruits separately; they are absorbed together with fats.

Separate nutrition, like the system based on the food pyramid, refers to the “omnivorous” type of nutrition. The main idea of separate meals is to avoid eating foods that are incompatible with each other at the same time.

In this article we will look at the basic principles of separate nutrition, the pros and cons of separate nutrition and the use of a separate nutrition system for weight loss.

I have compiled a convenient list of product compatibility for separate meals: product categories are arranged in order that corresponds to the principles of separate meals.

SEPARATE MEALS:

Principles of separate nutrition.

All food components are conventionally divided into 3 main groups - proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Fats are compatible with almost all types of foods. But proteins and carbohydrates do not combine with each other, since an acidic environment is required for the digestion of proteins, and an alkaline environment for carbohydrates.

Different foods require different conditions for absorption, and their digestion takes different times. For example, fruits are digested in 30 minutes, and meat passes through the digestive tract for several hours. If incompatible products enter the stomach together, the longest digestion process begins. As a result, poorly digested foods do not leave the gastrointestinal tract for a long time, causing putrefactive processes, poisoning the body, settling on the intestinal walls in the form of toxins and contributing to obesity.

In addition, nutrients from incompatible foods are poorly absorbed. Minerals and vitamins are also not fully absorbed.

The matter is complicated by the fact that proteins, fats and carbohydrates are present together in almost all foods, although in different proportions. Thus, it is impossible to completely separate proteins, fats and carbohydrates. In addition, proteins, fats and carbohydrates differ in their composition.

Therefore, in separate nutrition, products are divided not into 3 categories, but into 18 (see).

The principles of separate power supply are simple:

  1. Consume only compatible foods in one meal.
  2. Maintain a break between meals (2 hours). In addition to fruits, after which you can eat other foods within 15-20 minutes.

A break is needed to ensure that the food is completely digested and eliminated from the body before a new portion arrives. In addition, a two-hour break gives rest to the digestive system.

Compatibility of products with separate meals.

There are different options for separating products according to compatibility when feeding separately. We will take the most complete list - 18 product categories:

Products belonging to the same category are combined with each other and can be consumed in one meal. Compatibility of products from different categories is indicated below (in). According to , products from compatible categories can be consumed in one meal, but incompatible products cannot.

In the list of product compatibility for a separate power supply system, the following is indicated for each product category:

  • What products are compatible with (the combination of such products in one meal is possible and desirable).
  • Which products are compatible with average (the combination of such products is acceptable, but not desirable).
  • Product categories not mentioned should not be consumed together with products of this category - they are not compatible.

There are widespread tables of product compatibility for separate meals, in which all categories are mixed together. Looking at such tables, it is difficult to grasp the logic that underlies the compatibility of products. I tried to place the product categories in an order that allows you to understand the separate nutrition system and remember which products are compatible and which are not.

List of product compatibility for separate power supply:

1. Meat (red meat, poultry) and fish.

2 eggs .

Average Compatibility:

3. Butter, cream.

8. Sugar, confectionery, jams, syrups.

In accordance with the principles of separate nutrition, confectionery products go well with green vegetables because they help neutralize the harmful effects of these products. But who wants to snack on a piece of cake with lettuce and parsley? therefore, we can say that confectionery products, jams and syrups do not go well with anything.

9. Vegetable oil.

Unrefined oil consumed in its raw form, preferably cold pressed.

Advantages of separate power supply.

Disadvantages of separate power supply.

  • The principles of separate nutrition do not stipulate which foods should be included in the daily menu in order to provide the body with all the necessary nutrients. To prevent a lack of any substances (proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals), you should diversify your diet as much as possible. When creating a menu, you can use the food pyramid.
  • The main complaint made against separate meals is that separate meals “wean” the body from digesting incompatible foods. As a result, if in the future a person eats incompatible foods, he will develop an upset stomach. If for you the inability to try all the dishes on the holiday table is the same as a disability, then separate meals are not for you.
  • Often, when switching to separate meals, a person feels constant hunger. Many people think that this is how it should be. I have reason to believe that this is not true. Separate nutrition in itself should not cause any discomfort. A constant feeling of hunger may occur if you have suddenly changed your diet. Separate nutrition does not require such a change. To avoid constant hunger when switching to separate meals, you need to divide your usual dishes into their component parts and create a new menu from them, in accordance with the principles of separate meals (by combining compatible products with each other). Thus, the daily diet will remain the same - as you know, changing the places of the terms does not change the sum. Then, when the body adapts to separate nutrition, it will be possible to gradually change the diet. With such a gradual transition to separate meals, you will not face either constant hunger or a lack of substances necessary for health.
  • Some people say that it is impossible to enjoy food on a separate diet. Here, of course, everything is individual. If this is your problem, then I would advise you to simply allow yourself to sometimes eat something “wrong” (that does not comply with the principles of separate nutrition), if you really want to eat exactly that. And don’t torment yourself with any remorse! Over time, the desire to eat something “wrong” will appear less and less until it disappears completely (it doesn’t matter when this happens - after a few weeks or after a few months).
  • Separate meals complicate life somewhat. Especially when you have to eat out. Often you have to choose between convenience and health. There's nothing you can do about it.

Separate meals for weight loss.

Typically, excess weight is a consequence of problems such as:

  • constipation, digestive disorders, severe slagging in the body,
  • metabolic disorders (protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism),
  • overeating.

Separate nutrition allows you to get rid of most of these problems. Thus, separate nutrition eliminates the causes of excess fat accumulation. Often, switching to separate meals is enough to begin the process of losing weight.

I would not recommend treating separate meals as a diet and sharply reducing the calorie content of your daily diet. There are several reasons for this:

  • Firstly, this may not be necessary. Separate nutrition already starts the process of natural weight loss.
  • Secondly, a low-calorie diet is effective for a short time. At the same time, the diet provokes weight gain at the end of it.
  • A low-calorie diet is always accompanied by a loss of muscle mass, which is then replaced by fat tissue.

Separate nutrition will not help in any way to avoid most of the negative consequences of dieting. The only thing that separate eating can help with is that the absorption of food when eating separately will be more efficient, which will help to avoid significant shortages of any nutrients, which is a common problem with any low-calorie diet.

Instead of limiting the amount of food you eat, you can speed up weight loss using other methods.

Losing weight on a separate diet will be facilitated by:

  • Cleansing the body. The best effect will be obtained by cleansing the body in full. But even only)
  • or simply create a training program that includes aerobic and anaerobic exercise,
  • or address problem areas by performing exercises for individual muscle groups.
  • The most lasting effect comes from gradual, natural weight loss. Separate nutrition is ideal for such weight loss. Remember that a constant feeling of hunger is not at all necessary when losing weight. On the contrary, if you experience discomfort after switching to separate meals, then you should reconsider your menu. Make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need in sufficient quantities. The food pyramid will help you with this. Perhaps you should make meals more frequent - this will help satisfy all the body's needs. More frequent meals (fractional meals) go well with separate meals and also contribute to weight loss.

When humanity constantly improved its way of life, discovered new lands and new products, it did not even suspect that this would help the emergence of new problems. After the invention of cars, there was no longer a need to saddle a horse, put on armor and hunt a mammoth. But this had no effect on the amount of food consumed. Therefore, losing weight has become the main goal in our time. If it is difficult to maintain a diet, then perhaps separate meals will help with this?

What is the benefit of separate power supply?

Let's start with the fact that there is no scientific evidence that would convince one hundred percent of the effectiveness of such a nutrition system. After all, according to it, in order to digest proteins, carbohydrates and fats, different types of enzymes are needed. Therefore, it is not recommended to mix products. For example, carbohydrates are processed in an alkaline environment, and proteins in an acidic environment. If you put them together, not everything will be absorbed in the same way.

Undigested food remains accumulate in the stomach and cause fermentation and flatulence, disrupting metabolism. This means that you need to separately consume foods containing fats, proteins and carbohydrates. This contributes to:

  • rapid digestion of food without fermentation and rotting,
  • removal of toxins and wastes,
  • rational nutrition,
  • health promotion,
  • improvement of well-being,
  • weight loss,
  • unloading the body,
  • opportunities to exclude harmful foods from the menu: mayonnaise, smoked meats, canned food, sweets,
  • helps get rid of asthma, chronic bronchitis, allergies, stomach disorders.

Separate meals for weight loss have become a very popular diet. After all, it not only helps you lose weight, but also reduces the load not only on the stomach, but also on the liver, pancreas, kidneys, and heart. It would seem a very good choice for a sane person. But opponents of separate meals give other arguments. They argue, citing nutritionists, that people cannot independently control the digestion process. Because all consumed foods are processed in the small intestine. And proteins can collide with fats that, for some reason, have slowed down at one of the stages. Disadvantages of fractional meals:

  • the body will not be able to return to primary digestion,
  • weakens the functioning of the gastric tract,
  • reduces enzyme functions,
  • inability to choose foods that contain only proteins, carbohydrates or fats (they do not exist in nature),
  • Without receiving enough carbohydrates, the body suffers from a lack of serotonin, which has a bad effect on mental well-being.

You should not throw off the principle of separate nutrition, that food should be simple, without preservatives and minimally cooked.

Principles of separate nutrition

The theory of separate nutrition has been known since the last century. In 1928, the book “The Correct Combination of Foods” by the American nutritionist G. Shelton was published. Since that time she has many fans and opponents. But even in ancient Rome, Aesculapius Celsus wrote about the dangers of mixed food. The famous Russian physiologist I. Pavlov proved that different foods are digested by different enzymes and different parts of the intestinal tract. Naturopath G. Hay not only promoted the principles of separate nutrition according to Shelton, but also adhered to them himself.

The main rules of separate nutrition:

  1. Carbohydrates and proteins are processed by different enzymes. Therefore, you cannot combine meat with potatoes, or pasta with chicken liver.
  2. The best way to improve the health of the body is vegetables, fruits and a variety of salads made from them.
  3. The break between meals of different types of food should be at least five hours.
  4. Foods with a lot of protein and sour vegetables are not combined with carbohydrates (meat is not eaten with tomatoes).
  5. You should avoid sugar, jam, desserts, and starch, as they provoke fermentation and putrefaction in the gastrointestinal tract.
  6. Greens, dried fruits, sour cream and cream, mushrooms, garlic, asparagus, onions, carrots are considered neutral and can be combined with any product.
  7. The two proteins should not be consumed together.
  8. Fats are not combined with proteins (eggs can only be fried in vegetable oil).
  9. Canned food, semi-finished products, and refined products are excluded.
  10. The next portion of food can be taken only two to three hours after the previous one. Other food after fruit can be consumed half an hour later.
  11. Watermelon and melon are incompatible foods, so it is better to eat them separately 45–50 minutes before main meals.
  12. Milk is drunk without flour products, together with fresh or boiled vegetables and fruits.

Types of products for separate nutrition:

  • protein menu - fish, meat, nuts, eggs, legumes, seafood, cheese and cottage cheese, eggplant,
  • carbohydrate menu - potatoes, honey, pasta, sweet fruits, sugar, rice, cereals, wholemeal bread,
  • fat menu - vegetable oil and butter, lard, sour cream, cream, dried fruits, juices,
  • menu with starch - bread, potatoes, flour and flour products,
  • menu with sour vegetables and fruits - lemon, grapes, pomegranate, cherry, orange, tomato, grapefruit,
  • menu with sweet fruits - bananas, persimmons, raisins, dates.

If you decide to try the principles of separate nutrition in practice, then do not forget that fats can be combined with any groups, but proteins and carbohydrates are incompatible with each other. Ideally, create a menu for the week using our lists and tables, and strictly follow it every day.

Separate food: product compatibility table (if pressed, it will increase)

Avoid these product combinations:

  1. Meat with pasta.
  2. Fish with rice.
  3. Potatoes with meat.
  4. Meat sauces with added flour.
  5. Sandwiches with cheese and ham.
  6. Brownies with nuts.
  7. Eggs with meat or cheese.
  8. Meat with fish.
  9. Chicken meat and prunes.
  10. Tea with chocolates or jam.

Prohibited products in a separate food system:

  1. carbonated drinks,
  2. seasonings (mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, vinegar),
  3. sausages, sausages, smoked meats,
  4. butter and margarine,
  5. syrups and sweets,
  6. crackers and ice cream,
  7. cakes, cookies, muffins, rolls,
  8. fatty dairy products,
  9. crackers and chips.

Consult your doctor if you decide to eat according to the separate principle, but have chronic diseases.

Separate meals for weight loss

Those who have endured any diet at least once know how difficult it is. It is difficult to limit yourself in food and not consume your favorite sweets. Therefore, it is not surprising that after a diet the previous weight returns again. According to reviews, separate meals are ideal for weight loss. Its advantages are obvious:

  • there are no restrictions on any specific food products,
  • the diet does not get boring because it is varied,
  • presence of psychological comfort,
  • metabolism is normalized,
  • vital energy appears
  • excess weight goes away.

To convince you of the effectiveness of the system, we will present only one fact. Herbert Shelton, who founded the “Dr. Shelton School of Health” and cured seriously ill patients with separate nutrition, followed his own principles. He lived almost a hundred years, like his follower Howard Hay.

Practice has shown that the most useful and healthy food may not be beneficial if taken without taking into account a particular disease or in a state of stress. And this is a direct path to hormonal imbalances and metabolic disorders.

Shelton believed that his diet will give results faster if combined with physical activity, daily routine, positive emotions. This is a unique nutritional philosophy that, with the right approach, prolongs life.

After all, our smaller relatives - animals - never mix food. And man learned to cook, bake, fry natural products, and look for unusual flavor combinations. True, then he often has to feel heaviness in the stomach, shortness of breath, and high blood pressure after eating all kinds of dishes. The hackneyed phrase that immediately comes to mind is that a person eats in order to live, and not in order to eat.

The principles of separate nutrition for weight loss are also a winning option for the body because there are no restrictions on portion sizes. Just don’t forget that the feeling of insufficient satiety will disappear half an hour after the meal, and overeating will help you adjust your menu.

Also, with such a diet, it is not necessary to adhere to the time of eating in a strictly designated period of the day. The body itself will tell you. Reviews from those who have lost weight show that many people switch to two meals a day, although this is not very correct. Don't force yourself to eat lunch if you don't have an appetite.. This is how the digestive system regulates your health. The immune system is gradually activated, the intestinal microflora is restored, the depressive state will pass, and the extra pounds will go away.

Separate meals: menu for the week

For breakfast you can eat one product from this list:

  • omelette with herbs,
  • hard boiled eggs,
  • porridge on the water,
  • sweet or sour fruit.

Lunch should consist of vegetables and one dish with carbohydrates or proteins. It is natural that dinner and lunch are the other way around. Did you eat carbohydrates at lunch? So, prepare dinner from protein products.

The first day

  • breakfast: muesli with nuts, sweet apple, black or green unsweetened tea,
  • lunch: white chicken meat or stewed beans, cabbage and carrot salad,
  • afternoon snack: watermelon,
  • dinner: boiled eggs and fruit.

Second day

  • breakfast: white buckwheat porridge and green ginger tea,
  • lunch: boiled hake, stewed eggplant,
  • afternoon snack: melon,
  • dinner: stewed asparagus and banana.

Day three

  • breakfast: semolina porridge, carrot juice,
  • lunch: vinaigrette, boiled lean meat,
  • afternoon snack: cherries or raspberries without sugar and with cream,
  • dinner: potato casserole with cauliflower.

Day four

  • breakfast: rice porridge with water, grapefruit or orange,
  • lunch: seafood, cabbage and cucumber salad, a piece of cheese,
  • afternoon snack: a cup of milk or fresh plums, peaches,
  • dinner: strawberries or cherries with low-fat cottage cheese.

Day five

  • breakfast: kefir, wheat porridge, apple,
  • lunch: bran bread, okroshka,
  • afternoon snack: fruit salad,
  • dinner: stewed pumpkin, nuts.

Day six

  • breakfast: a glass of fermented baked milk, banana,
  • lunch: stewed cabbage with mushrooms, tomato salad,
  • afternoon snack: watermelon,
  • dinner: salad with egg and cucumbers.

Day seven

  • breakfast: grapes, green tea,
  • lunch: green borscht, radish and green onion salad,
  • afternoon snack: orange,
  • dinner: boiled fish and stewed eggplants.

No frills are required for separate meals. But if the proposed menu seems boring, and the phrase “vegetable salad” makes you bored, use proven recipes.

Fruit mix

Ingredients: 2 kiwis, 1 peach, 1 orange, apple, 350 g vanilla yogurt.

Peel the orange and kiwi and cut into cubes. Cut the peach and apple into slices. Lay everything in a large glass. Pour cooled yoghurt over fruit layers.

If you care about your health and want to switch to separate meals, check out the detailed product compatibility tables. They were developed by nutritionists and promote weight loss and healthy body. There is a three-month separate meals menu. To solve serious health problems, turn to a mono-diet. Here they alternate every four days: protein, starch, carbohydrate and vitamin. To begin with, try eating separately twice a week so that your body gradually adapts.

After weighing all the pros and cons, you will understand that the principles of separate nutrition are a lifeline for a modern person who moves little and eats a lot of unhealthy foods. Take care of your health to feel full of energy for a long time!

involves eating certain types of foods at different times for better absorption and optimal digestion. Separate meals can be adapted to absolutely any person, regardless of lifestyle, profession, gender, age, etc.
Nutritionist Herbert Shelton developed a system of separate nutrition in the process of studying various medical works and personal observations. The basic principle of separate nutrition according to Shelton is to consume foods at different times in the daily diet that are absorbed differently by the body.

The digestion of proteins, fats and carbohydrates requires different enzymes, which are produced in different parts of the digestive tract. Therefore, when proteins, fats and carbohydrates enter the stomach all together, they interfere with each other’s digestion. Heaviness appears in the stomach, disturbances occur in metabolism and in the functioning of the pancreas, and excess weight accumulates.

! The more ingredients on your plate, the more difficult it will be for your body to absorb the food.

Separate food - basic rules of compatibility:

  • Do not mix carbohydrate-rich foods and acidic foods.
  • Do not mix starches and proteins.
  • Do not mix different proteins.
  • Don't eat fats with proteins.
  • Don't eat proteins with sour fruits.
  • Do not mix starches and sugars.
  • Avoid eating starchy foods.

Conventionally, all products can be classified into the following categories:

  • Proteins: meat, fish, eggs, cheese, nuts, beans, soy.
  • Fats: sour cream, cream, lard, butter and vegetable oil.
  • Carbohydrates: bread, cereals, pasta, potatoes, peas, beans, sugar, sweet fruits.
  • Starches: potatoes, cereals, peas, pasta, bread, baked goods.
  • Sweet fruits: bananas, dates, raisins, figs, persimmons, prunes.
  • Sour vegetables and fruits: tomato, orange, grapefruit, lemon, peach, grapes, pineapple, pomegranate.

Half an hour before each meal, you should drink a glass of boiled or mineral water without gas.

There should be at least 3-4 hours between meals so that foods from different groups do not interfere with each other’s digestion

Separate meals recommendations

  • Avoid refined foods, as well as alcohol, coffee and sweets. Replace them with dried fruits and honey.
  • Try to avoid products containing artificial ones, or eliminate them completely!
  • Minimize culinary processing of foods, avoid canned food and semi-finished products.
  • In the first half of the day, try to eat foods rich in fiber (vegetables and fruits). It is better to leave proteins for lunch, and carbohydrates for dinner.
  • The break between meals should be at least 4 hours (if this is too long a break for you, have a snack from something from the neutral group).
  • The more neutral foods in your diet, the lower the risk of high acidity, which leads to various diseases;
  • Never eat in a hurry, chew slowly and calmly

Separate nutrition will help you restore your health, feel cheerful and energetic in any weather and under any circumstances. We also recommend playing sports or performing. Regular walks in nature are very beneficial.

Separate meals reviews

Separate nutrition has a serious scientific basis and has already proven its effectiveness on hundreds of thousands of people. These principles are easily adapted to any person and help to significantly relieve the digestive system. According to numerous reviews, separate meals are quickly becoming a part of life and improving its quality. Heaviness after eating disappears, it’s easy to get up in the morning, many illnesses recede. Life becomes easier, a lot of strength and vitality appears. According to medical research, the principles of separate nutrition allow a person to receive a full complex of foods, and also contribute to their better absorption.

For faster weight loss or cleansing of the body, some people add one-day weekly fasting or fasting on days.

Unfortunately, the principles of separate nutrition are not easy for everyone - giving up your favorite dishes that contain incompatible foods is not possible. Should you refuse or eat your favorite dish in honor of a holiday or birthday? Little weaknesses that we can afford from time to time still decorate our lives and make it more attractive.

Nobody likes rules and restrictions, especially in nutrition. According to statistics, 90% of followers of various diets soon give up on them. Separate nutrition for weight loss does not require self-restraint. The menu is varied, not boring, and can be followed constantly.

The benefits of separate nutrition

Many people understand the word “diet” as dietary restrictions. In fact, from Greek the word means “dietary regimen” - that is, certain rules for eating food.

A strict diet is the cause of possible failure due to changes in the functioning of organs and systems.

Reducing calories causes the body to switch to an economical mode. It is reluctant to break down fat cells, especially in women. Produces special enzymes for storing fat in order to quickly create a reserve in case of another “hunger” at the end of the diet.

Excess body weight is often caused by unhealthy eating habits.

Modern artificial food and unfavorable ecology create the preconditions for changes within the body, the causes of various diseases, genetic mutations that are inherited.

The reason for extra pounds is metabolic disorders, lack of physical activity, the habit of eating and bad mood.

Separate meals allow you to lose weight without menu restrictions, in a natural way.

The idea is not new. But it was examined and analyzed in detail by Herbert Shelton, author of about 40 scientific works, doctor of medicine, pediatrics, philosophy, philology and other sciences, in the book “The Correct Combination of Foods,” which was published in 1971.

In 1928, at the Dr. Shelton School of Health clinic, he cured serious illnesses by separating food, fasting, physical activity, fresh air, sun, clean water, rest, sleep, hygiene, control of emotions. G. Shelton died at the age of 100.

The principles of separate meals relate to the compatibility of dishes and also extend to food philosophy. For example, the healthiest food will have little benefit if eaten when you are restless.

The menu for a week with separate meals is not strict. Rather, the author suggests a certain approach to eating food according to the compatibility table. The arguments are well-reasoned and based on the observations of physiologists, nutritionists, and other specialists.

With a traditional menu, a mixture of food ends up in the stomach, each requiring its own environment for breakdown, which prevents processing and complete absorption, increasing the load on the organs of the digestive system.

For example, substances that break down do not affect proteins, and vice versa - they require an acidic environment. Digestion of carbohydrate requires alkali. In acid, carbohydrates ferment and form gases.

When you eat only one food - for example, bread, which contains carbohydrates and protein - the body adapts. First, it secretes almost neutral gastric juice, then increases acidity to break down protein.

When carbohydrates and proteins come in different foods (for example, a dish of meat and potatoes), the body secretes an acidic juice that interferes with the absorption of carbohydrates. Therefore, the separate nutrition menu suggests consuming protein a few hours after carbohydrates.

Creating a separate meals menu for the week

Every food contains carbohydrates, proteins, fats. In separate nutrition they are classified into a specific group:

  • Meat products, fish, cheese, cereals, legumes, and nuts are rich in protein.
  • Carbohydrates in the form of starch contain rye, wheat, potatoes; green peas, zucchini, and pumpkin are rich in them. And also cabbage, carrots, turnips, cucumbers, eggplants, radishes.
  • There are many carbohydrates in the form of sugar in honey, granulated sugar, syrups, fruits - raisins, dates, prunes, persimmons, pears.
  • Olive, sunflower, corn, butter, and nut oils are rich in fats; there are many of them in lard, fatty meat and fish, and nuts.
  • Sour fruits are represented by oranges, lemons, grapes, sour plums, and sauerkraut.
  • Sweet apples, peaches, pears, apricots, plums, etc. are considered semi-acidic.

When losing weight and creating a menu of separate meals for a week, do not mix proteins from different foods. For example, meat protein requires an acidic environment at the beginning of digestion, and cheese protein requires an acidic environment at the end.

The breakdown of protein is not facilitated by the combination of meat foods with lemon juice, vinegar, and sour fruits. Acid reduces the secretion of gastric juice, which prolongs the digestion of meat.

Fatty foods (cheeses, nuts) also slow down the secretion of gastric juice, so they are not consumed with protein, otherwise it will not be completely digested.

Protein and fatty foods are combined with greens, with vegetables without starch - fresh green beans, tender varieties of zucchini and pumpkin, celery, cucumbers, radishes, parsley, lettuce.

When eating separately for weight loss, it is allowed to exclude oil.

Sweet foods are not combined with carbohydrates (for example, honey and pies), although butter and bread without jam or jam are acceptable.

Sugars are not compatible with protein foods - they are absorbed in the intestines. In the stomach, where it is warm and humid, in combination with other foods they ferment and form gases.

Therefore, desserts and fruits, especially watermelons and melons, should be consumed separately and considered an independent meal - their combination with other foods is undesirable.

Mammals drink milk only in childhood. In the stomach it coagulates and becomes cottage cheese, enveloping it, preventing digestion. It is better to drink milk on its own. Even with cereals, its benefits are small.

Separate nutrition helps you lose weight and prevents the formation of rotting protein on the walls of the large intestine. The products of decay - carbon dioxide, acetic acid, alcohol - penetrate into the blood, causing atherosclerosis of blood vessels.

The body spends energy to neutralize them, instead of directing them to fight excess fat mass.

The serving size for separate meals for weight loss is arbitrary, depending on how you feel.

If you get up from the table with a slight feeling of hunger, which goes away after fifteen minutes, the amount of food has been chosen correctly. Otherwise, at the next dose, increase the portion by 10-15 percent.

It is not necessary to eat by the hour - the feeling of hunger is more important, then the food will be completely and happily absorbed.

If you skip a meal due to being busy or absent, don’t worry – your body will take its toll the next day. Some feel the need and therefore switch to two meals a day.

Separate nutrition table for weight loss

This table helps you create a separate nutrition menu for weight loss and select compatible products. Each variety is assigned a number.

For example, cheese is assigned No. 14, this number is indicated in the row and column.

When checking the compatibility of cheese (14) with sweet fruits (9), it does not matter in what order the check is performed: compare cheese and sweet fruits or, conversely, sweet fruits and cheese - the result is the same in both cases.

To avoid duplication of data, the table shows the compatibility result of only one product combination, which is why it has a “triangular” appearance.

How to check the compatibility of sweet fruits (9) and cheese (14)?

We look for line No. 9 in the table - “Sweet fruits”. But it ends at column No. 8, and in column No. 14, which corresponds to cheeses, there is nothing! What should I do?

This means that it checks the compatibility of the reverse combination - that is, cheese (No. 14) and sweet fruits (No. 9).

In line No. 14 - “Cheeses” - there is a cell in column No. 9, it corresponds to sweet fruits. This cell is red.

This means that cheese and sweet fruits are not compatible; these products are consumed separately.

Why does separate eating help you lose weight?

This method of eating food is based on taking into account the characteristics of the breakdown of proteins and carbohydrates in animals.

Unlike animals, people heat natural food: boil, fry, bake. For original taste sensations, they mix it in various combinations, create sophisticated menus - then they complain about being overweight, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, and poor health.

The body does not absorb some of the mixed food. It rots and the body accumulates decay products in adipose tissue. To avoid having to lose weight, it is easier to follow the principles of separate nutrition and not eat incompatible foods.

Separate nutrition releases strength for self-healing, normalization of the digestive system, which helps to lose weight. The body assimilates food with less energy consumption. The intestinal microflora produces the necessary vitamins.

Separate nutrition helps not only to lose weight, but also to become healthier and eliminate stress.

Arguments against separate nutrition

The main argument of opponents of separate nutrition is that food, different in composition, but consumed at the same time, complements each other during digestion, which contributes to better digestibility. Residues quickly leave the body.

Other arguments:

  • Meat protein in the absence of bread or vegetables is absorbed worse, since carbohydrates stimulate the pancreas to produce substances for digesting protein in the intestines - if fed separately, its remains will rot.
  • Dairy products in the form of porridge with bread are healthy - the combination increases the nutritional value of the diet.
  • Acidic foods help the body absorb from grains.
